I'm probably the next closest to Temecula after Oscar over in Lake Elsinor, and I haven't piped up because honestly, I don't know jack about pre-S4's, especially stalling/electrical issues. Fuel systems I can handle. But in any case I could probably look for preventative maintenance things that might prevent the next meltdown. SoCal Girl, if you can make it until the weekend of May 17th, Ron Perry and I will be working on his car (right Ron? ) and you're welcome to stop by.

Too bad you're out in Temecula. I just discovered a guy who specializes in 928s, who's half German, and speaks with a heavy accent, is very good at what he does, and is priced well enough for me to NOT do the work myself. He's located in Van Nuys, but that's probably too far for you.

Just a thought.....

Can we clarify what the car was doing before. When it stopped running (died) did it crank on the starter motor, Wha wha wha ?? , when it started the next day did you have to jump start it or had you recharged the battery ? Tell the shop you want the old alternator, insist on it.

Oscar,
Good to see you on the forum Last time we talked, you had painted your wing. I had mine done professionally and didn't look near as good as yours. You gotta come down and hang with us again.

Hey Jim
When the car died, it would turn over, just not fire up. The battery was never an issue. I did not have to recharge it either time.
I will tell him I want my alternator back...
Thank you
Once I get it out of there I will contact you Oscar...Thank you so much

Would you be surprised Jim? There really is no excuse for what this mechanic did...

Not a good week for cops and mechanics on rennlist.com!

How about she takes her old alternator and gets it tested, it will probably pass, have them reinstall it on her car and they each go their separate ways with no money exchanged and socalgirl doesn't have to call the California Bureau of Automotive Repair over this issue?

Sound fair?

they quoted my $460 for the part & approx $160 labor... seems a lil high, but like jim said, looks like I have to bite the bullet this time

Well, as long as you get a kiss to go along with it.

$620 is definitely taking advantage of you.

There are some parts stores, possibly Kragen or NAPA that can test it for you. Call around and see if you can find one that will.

If it isn't obvious, I would suggest testing the old alternator before letting Mr. Guesswork know that you'll want your money back if it isn't bad. Else, it will be bad when he gives it back to you.

'round here AutoZone will test alternators (and even if they are bad they test good.... at least that's been my experience with the one 928 alternator I had tested...)
