No one ever buys a sunroof clip ....the sunroof motor and transmission are all that have much value. You probably did meet my friend Ian if you were around Reese etc. His fabrication shop was in Huntington Beach. He is big into drifting .

$15k. For some reason it's not on that page, but the price is listed on the classified ad. http://mall.rennlist.com/scripts/fea...uery=retrieval
I can understand that. If we all wanted to do things the easiest or most convenient way, we all wouldn't have started w/ a 928 in the first place. Look forward to seeing pics of your build.

This is a great deal, and ill tell you why. All the hard stuff is done. all the stuff that is listed is stuff that would have to be replaced or go wrong. plus it is already set up for big wheels and tires and the body looks fantastic. (anyone know how he got 295s up front???)
Basically, if i could do it again, i would do it exactly like i did. you have to start with a 928 in the first place, because it is the only car that can run this fast and be this cheap!! trust me, i have not seen a car out at the track yet, or on any track accross the country that can run near Speed Touring World Challenge times for as cheap as the 928. And, all i need to do to beat all the tuner guys in the very modified, and expensive racers, is put the stroker bottom end in.
(We will see about that!)
It all depends on what you want to get out of the sport, and what class you want to run. But, knowing what i know now, there is no cheaper way to go faster than a 928. (and this includeds dependability). 93 race days, no DNFs, is hard to argue with!
back to the price, you figure any good S4 or 85 is going to cost near $5 to $8k.
the rest is fixed. it takes about another $8k to make most any car a race car.
(ie wheels, tires, headers , suspension, safety stuff, etc)

I'm also wondering how he got 295's to fit in the front. It looks like he did not roll the fenders either... offset in the 70's and a bunch of negative camber?

One serious benefit you have that is priceless in your upcoming builds is the fact that Professor Ott is not that far away!!!! Louie is one of the brilliant minds behind current 928's & he will help you immensely with little tricks he found worked or didn't work in the build of his Monster....

Forget about the "monster" factor for a while. this can only hurt you in the beginning. car control, traffic, momentium, should be priorities to start. the rest of the performance stuff can just be a distraction. Ive seen way too many folks go down that path, only to take several more years to become proficient.
Just get dependable, predictable and comfortable down first!

Check out the Coastal Bend PCA website (Austin, Texas) sorry for not having the link....anyway it appears that someone has a complete 928 set up for the track at a very good price. Buying one is much smarter than building one!!
You can STILLl spend 24 hours a day working on "purchased" track car.

anytime you can find a 928S4 with a full cage , a set of nice big wheels, suspension, and headers for under $15k, you should jump on it. Just the cost of these components alone is worth it, let alone what it takes to put it together, as well as the "gutting" process. Its interesting the first time, but its a lot of messy work.

Chassis R,
Do you what you want to do. Build it your way! There are some gotchas re: big motor build... There are plenty of other things to address before big power. I don't think DonH made a bunch of compromises to make his car fast, no, it takes commitment to be a contender. Still the sweetest sounding car I have ever heard on a race track was Don's black 928 on the front strip at PIR. Don's still competing - racing his bike somewhere...

The black 89S4 does not have a cage...or even a roll bar....just a gutted S4 with big wheels-tires, fender flares, welded sunroof & a custom exhaust + GTS brakes.... Add a cage and basically its the holbert car.....add a fuel cell + fire system and it will pass tech just about anywhere....
I wonder what it weighs?
