Transmission help! pump seal

Transmission help! pump seal
A mechanic just told me that I have a transmission leak. Its coming from the "pump seal" and dripping onto the "screen". I made a huge mistake and dropped off the car at the nearest mechanic to the airport (I was flying out). I have since found out that this repair facility is ranked "unfavorable" on the better business bureau's list! I am not having them do the work and was thinking of doing it myself. Is this a hard operation to perform?????????? any special tools involved???? thanks

Im not sure what he meant about what it was dripping onto. I really dont think he was all that well schooled on Porsches, but It seems I have a transmission pump attached to my transmission and the gasket or "seal" as he called it it not up to par. Is this a tough job to replace? Funny thing is... I park it in my garage and see no evidence of a leak on the floor.

get it to someone you trust, then see if there really is a problem, then see if you can fix it. For me, just about any tranny work is way beyond my pay grade...

if its front pump seal then it may leak more when its in neutral or reverse with the engine running than with it in drive.
That said the screen is at the bottom of the bell housing for the transmission and is the same location that the torque converter is drained.
To fix this you will have to drop out the transmission and since your doing that inspect the trans fluid lines and rebuild the torque tube and replace the torque converter bearings, . Replace the torque converter radiaL seal and the front pump seal (this is the one thats probably leaking).. Also any other upgraded parts that you can refit to the trans while it out , Find Steve Cattano for this info

in doing the front pump reseals I have found that if the paper gasket is intact the best method is to wipe it clean and reuse it, dont try to remove the gasket or replace it unless it falls out.
I have found that it wont leak if its not distrubed.
A leak will possibly develop if the sealing surface is nicked while trying to remove the old gasket
