When my tailgate is shut, looking at the S4 from the rear, the closure line between the tailgate and the body are not even. I have more gap to the left of the car and then the gap gradually decreases and virtually vanishes to the right. Is there any adjusment I can do somewhere to make the closure line even gap? Also even when the car is switched off, I can hear a solenoid clicking coming from the rear tailgate. Periodically it just goes click...click....click. Any ideas please what it could be?
I have tried to include this basic drawing below of what I mean (sorry don't have a camera):
If by this you mean the hatch rests HIGHER on one side, check the rubber bumpers on the underside of the hatch rear corners. They can be turned in and out for adjustment.
It better be way out of adjustment rubber bumpers (although why would they be set that way?). If the hatch sits this way naturally, then the body is wack. Maybe a bent or maladjusted hinge.

Nadine,
Quick & Dirty: Try switching them, 'just for diagnostic purposes'...
This helped a friend, on a road trip, who 'wasn't convinced' it was a strut issue... he later replaced them...
You are officially approaching the 'slippery slope!'
Pic posting capabilities, spare parts, manuals, possible upgrades will soon follow -- for starters!
check the hatch fuse it might be blown if the motor keeps running I think its a 1 amp fuse
There really isn't any kind of solenoid back there to click - so maybe the only candidate is he rear hatch motor... for it to 'click' rather than 'whirr' I'd supect its just momentarily engaging without cycling.
You could dismantle it and clean it (esp the track inside - see many previous posts on this) or test to see if its that. What Mr Merlin say above seems backwards to me... The release motorcan't run if the 1A fus is blown (except via the pul switches)... but if its an intermittant connection on the hatch motor self parking track - poulling the 1A fuse should stop it from happening - thats what I'd try. The hatch release will still work - but you may have to fiddle with it a little to get the hatch to close - since it wor't always park in the right place.
Thats what I'd try...
It could also be related to the hatch pull switches there are other things you can do to check for that...
