you are better off to just forget it. Been there tried it. seen others try it. The only way they cover it is if they lost it. and then i have seen "computer problems" lose the pick up information. And it is not just UPS it is all of them

It took me a month or more to get my refund from UPS for damaged infinity home speakers I got off Ebay. The shipper had to deal with all the paper work. Jason

Regular JE pistons could be spec'd for these nikasil bores. Open season on whatever compression you want.

I agree with Brendan, go domestic if you're going to replace them. JE is good enough that they can spec the piston to your prepared bore, then just have the one bore redone.
What is the piston to bore clearance right now with your stock pistons Richie? Did US Chrome bore for domestics or to P-spec?

Yeah I also worked for UPS in college. There were basically 4 hour shifts for loaders/unloaders. At the beginning of your shift, the emphasis was quality quality quality. When it was 30 minutes from the end, the supervisors would come around and tell us to do whatever was necessary to get all the packages unloaded. This included throwing packages from the truck onto the conveyor belt (sometimes more than 6 feet). If you were not done with your packages by the end of the shift, you were in big ****. It was funny, you could hear *boom* after *boom* as packages were thrown on the belt.

Adam - According to a local machine shop the finished bore size is 100.050 mm. My pistons are group 1 Kolbenschmidt. I read somewhere that the finished bore size should be between 100.005 and 100.015 mm but I don't know that to be gospel.

I had a bad experience with UPS once - package (US to Saudi) with shipped weight marked arrived under that figure, AND had a copy of a note saying "something metallic found loose, couldnt tell which package it came from" loose in bottom of box - missing part was a pair of tie rods. First they blamed shipper, then TX office, then said speak to London office.... Gave up in the end, ordered replacement parts shipped Fedex, had them delivered and installed before claim was settled.

Co-Owned 2 UPS stores and the biggest defense of damaged packages is the packing quality. Don't use styro peanuts, they suck. If UPS decides that you, or the shipper didn't use the proper packaging, you are screwed.
Anytime you pack something for shipping, that could be broken, use bubble wrap, in 2 layers, and then use either 2x the corrugate (boxes), or don't bother. The packages are tossed/thrown from place to place.
If you don't think the box you have can stand take a 2 foot drop, and the parts will not get broken, then don't send it.

Between my wife and I, we collectively have near 60 years in the "transportation" business. Debi has been in the air freight side of things for about 27 yrs, and I have been in the trucking side of things for going on 29 yrs.
We might know a little bout the biz, so here goes.......
Any carrier can trash your stuff. Any carrier, on any given day.
It is the shipper who has responsibility to make sure the product is properly packed. If in doubt, ask the carrier. If they want your business (and most of them do), they will be happy to guide/talk with you.
When there is a damage claim (at the consignee), the consignee must immediately document the damage, and then the consignee has nine (9) months to submit a claim.
When sending (or ordering a product for) a shipment, if the carrier offers insurance (damage, loss, theft, etc...), be damn sure to pay for it. If the carrier does not offer insurance, do not use said carrier.
I, personally, have hauled everything from household goods to massive wind generation towers to live white tigers and everything in between. Sometimes damage is unavoidable. It is unfortunate, but it does happen. I have been fortunate, with only one minor paint claim in my 29 yr career. In my opinion, if the carrier makes ever effort to make sure the product is delivered in good condition and damage still occurs, the carrier must reimburse the offended parties.....
You have time, and UPS should stand up and honor your claim.
Having a block or set of pistons busted up is nothing compared to a $60,000 white tiger delivered with a bloody nose.......not that I ever hit "Ghandi" in the nose, no matter how much he growled at me.

Brendan, What's the turn around time for JE these days? They get it done pretty quickly dont they, 6-8 weeks if not sooner right? What does a set cost, are they about $150 per piston or closer to $200?

Well here's the latest... I got an email from Carl and he said UPS will pay the claim. The next step is to ship my block back to 928M and locate/order replacement pistons. YES!!!

Thats a great story, pretty telling there, I can totally see this being the case.
