Funny, I missed the overspray vs. oxidation on the rear bumperette, but I only looked at it for few minutes. There was no evidence of a major hit - the rear floor and spare tire well were flat, everything in the engine compartment looked original and the radiator had the original stickers. I'll probably go look at it one more time for educational value. I'd like to find the damage and what other clues I missed.

Maybe the car was towed on a rollback at some point and a tow hook bent/ripped the frame, I have seen that on a couple 928's.

Bill - please be sure to update your further findings. I'd love to know what to look for, and I am looking to help a local friend get into one at this point, so anything you share will be most helpful!

carfax doesn't show any info from what I see. All looks well. Maybe autocheck digs deeper?

I suppose a quick look underneath would give us a better idea of "Frame Damage" Hell, it might be listed as that due to some jackass lifting it up on the chassis instead of the lift points.

Good looking car IMHO.

soupcan928 Did you look at Marine Blue's car for sale?

Yeah, She loves it, but it's got to be an auto. SW Florida is no place for a 5-speed IMHO with all the Illegals/Snowbirds/Criminally Stupid Dumbass's we have to contend with everyday.

Damn, potentially a very nice car and great deal if the frame's not bent....
If I were in the market for this I would try to work a deal contingent on it passing a frame and chassis alignment check on a local frame shop on their frame-checking equipment.

The auto auctions will sometimes call FRAME damage if the floor supports have been bent by jacking up the car. That is all it takes , I personally saw this happen to a 928 at an auction. Most dealer trade-ins of all kinds get wholesaled that is just how it is does not mean it is a bad car just not what they need on the used car lot. Most of the cars on the new car dealers used car lot are NOT TRADES but cars they bought at wholesale auction Lease returns and repos being a major source.

If that is all it takes to claim frame damage, then my car and most other 928s would fall into that class. Based on that possibility alone, this car deserves a real close look. Off for another visit.

A proper PPI needs to be done anyway. Maybe in this case it should include an allignment check. Money well spent.

But even if it does have frame damage, with the low mileage and perfect interior, it's worth the asking price in parts.

Overall, the risk is not that high on this one, I would think... Hope it's just the bent floor support rails.

The one I was involved with the buyer turned down the car , the auction allowed him to back out of the purchase.... It then had to be resold at auction big mess , the auction company "fixed" the frame damage by bondoing it and undercoating ....then resold it at their next auction.....without frame damage There was a loss of several hundred dollars.

I looked this car over top and bottom today. It had the most pristine floor supports I have ever seen - no kidding, they were perfect. So, that wasn't it. I found no other signs of anything bent or a hit anywhere that affected the underlying structure at all. I did find evidence of a respray, although it was a bit confusing. I mean it looked very well done, but then I would find bits of overspray on some of the rubber (not removed) while other rubber looked fresh as a daisy. If someone had bothered to clean up the minor overspray, I would not have known it was a respray. All the panels except the front fenders had their original VIN stickers. I have a ton of pictures I will post to the Web later.

I don't know where you would get a good PPI done in the Martinez area.

wow; if you are just looking for a DD for tooling around in, this car sounds pretty good. Bill, I trust nothing in the tire tread wear indicated bent frame? (hard to tell by that I guess, because an alignment issue would yield the same symptoms)...

The tires were fairly fresh. Rears looked OK. The fronts looked like the inside is wearing - typical for an alignment done with the front suspension jacked up.

I'm putting together a picture story for you guys to have fun with.
