Again I found myself stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on I-5, having traveled 14 miles with the "gas low" light on.
I've got an '88 S4 A/T.
I'm curious to know whose got the record out there for traveling the farthest with the light on, and if anyone has actually run out of gas.

Yep. Been there, Done That. I went 38 miles after the light went on and 5 miles more after the pumps started whinning(running dry) as the car would rock fore and aft on accel/braking. The car died with no fuel as soon as I pulled up to the Chevron 92 pump. As if it knew, I would chance running out of gas before I would put in some cheapass gas.

My light comes on at exactly 18 gallons expended. My 79 has a 22 gal fuel tank, leaving me about 4 gals. As soon as the light goes on, i look for the closest gas station. I may be the only man in america who actually got rid of his cell phone, so i dont take the chance.
