What was my point? Oh, yeah... you can get really good numbers out of a 928, just by getting it back to stock tune, plus a little tweaking. Put another way, many of the stage 1 (turbo)superchargers are basically making up for ineffecient exhausts, or bad tuning.

What's with all these SS/chromed pipes, monster turbos, intercoolers stuck everywhere. Cutting the body? Lame.

What I'd like to see is a CHEAP, I mean Walmart cheap, Stage 1 OB rear turbo that can give a well tuned car that extra edge. Stock L/LH2.2 24# injectors. Cheap turbo. No intercooler. Self contained oiling/cooling. Aluminized steel pipes. You wanna upgrade? Get a Stage 2, fool!

Don't make me get out my welder.

And put a muffler on those things...

Gotta be a way to quiet it down a notch or two...

Do that and I'll buy one...

Porken,
The Murf stage 1 S4 is 400rwhp (SAE), the 85/86 will not be far behind (if at all).

Not all stage 1 kits are the same

Hacker

I know you mentioned Murf's kit before and Tim responded on his thread.

For whatever its worth, a Centrifugal SC is my absolute least favorite way to get boost. Well maybe an olds Roots is worse, but I dont like the centrifugal, dont like the way it looks on the car don't like the way they sound just dont like them. Why, I dont really know, I just want something different.

I'm sure its a great product, but at this point i would prefer something else.

86.5 will make more than an S4, garoneteed.

But we'll never know, because Shane is going straight to stage 5, or something.

I'd need only 70ish rwhp for 400. An eRam would do that.

Shane..you did mention this before...I'll mention this to JT and Chuck..I don't think a muffler in place of the cat would take away too much from the power and it would definitely take the "edge" off the exhaust note

Just clearing up data - doesn't matter to me what anyone goes with, as long as the result is a faster 928. On the noise bit, the s-trims are very quiet. As for looks.....it's funny how many people see my engine and ask when did Porsche make a turbo 928

HP is limited by the small intake. But still, 214 rwhp / 277 rwtq sae with an automatic! No...it wasn't the initial TC flash, that was >320.

(It clicks here for chart.) STP correction, -7hp, and -10tq for SAE

It's all about the properly sized exhaust.

I think Shane means a muffler after the turbo.

Did that torque peak come from the initial convertor mult. at the start of the run?..the graph seems to show that..but the later peak is only a bit smaller..either way..the S 4.7 motors were torque monsters...stock rated at 267ft-lbs.....

Not sure where..but not much room after obviously...would think one before wouldn't affect it too much..

I was editing my post cuz somehow, I knew you'd ask. TC flash was 320ish sae.

The stock '81 4.5 was rated at 256 crank torque. (265 is a WSM typo.)

I'm making 277 + 18% = 327 ctq sae, with basic mods.

Out of everyone here...... you really should just build an SC setup for yourself and get the 70hp that you're after. It really isn't that hard you know and you do have what it takes too
