So, it's $7.50 a foot now?

The stuff from aircraftspruce is $5.50 per foot and seems like it might be better?

I've got to buy some stuff from aircraftspruce anyway...

McMaster-Carr is not much better on price - about $6.50-$7.00 per foot for double neoprene-coated fiberglass or neoprene-coated polyester duct hose.

I like the link that stated the hose was rubber impregnated cloth. That seems to me to be the closest description to the factory stuff.

Dave,

Is CAT and CEET a manufacturer or a type of ducting or what? How would you compare those 2 to something i would know relating to porsche. Are they material differences, or specification differences or rated for differing duties or manufacturers or what? Where do i get this stuff? Is this something i can order from this aircraft supplier?

There was a thread a few years back about an aircraft supplier that had a an insulation pad that was supposed to be good for the hood. My hood pad is in ok shape, its dusty and probably just needs to be re-glued, but i figure i should just replace it cause i remember the stuff mentioned was going to be like $20-$30 or something. Any idea if this aircraft supplier would have an insulation pad for the underhood?

Well after trying a half dozen or more places locally here in Austin including some specialty shops, ive gone ahead and ordered 4 feet of the ducting that Rob E. And Bill B. suggested. (Their website is working now)

I will report back with pics and impressions.

Great pics. I've never seen the shroud setup. Anyone have an extra shroud?

I'm using 2.5" hose that I bought from my local woodworking store. It's a heavy plastic (nylon?) duct that is commonly used for wood dust collection. Since I do woodworking I had it laying around. Fit perfectly!

Andrew works with his wood?

Actually i am looking to get into this and try and make some furniture of my own. I may ask you for tips on what tools i need to get started to do most everything. Actually what i would like to find is a book that covers the basics as i havent done wood shop since 9th grade and havent a clue as to what modern tools can do. Any book suggestions that go through setting up a shop and tools required and what types of finishes they can do and so on and so forth? I went to my Library but they didnt have anything that really caught my eye.

Actually I don't have any books on the stuff, but I have a lot of magazines. I'm not sure it's on anymore, but if you can catch Norm Abram's "New Yankee Workshop" on PBS, it's a good start to re-learn the basics (paint-by-numbers). Then i would pick up a subscription to Wood Magazine. It's got a lot of the basic stuff in it from month to month plus project ideas. Many of your better wood shops offer classes too. Look up Woodcraft and Rockler - I know they offer classes.

Tools, well the cornerstone is the table saw. Get a good one, like a Delta. Other tools that I would recommend you pick up over time is a band saw, sliding miter saw, drill press, good Japanese hand saws, and a lathe. A router and table are nice, but not essential.

Anyway, watch Norm and get some ideas.
