Default Engine Stand

I know this was posted a little while ago but I can't find it again. I want to buy an engine stand for my engine. I can get a 1250 pound stand for $70 or I can get a 2000 pound stand for $120. Will the 1250 pound stand work or should I spend the extra $50 and get the 2000 pound stand?

Spend the extra money. Make sure the legs are long enough to be stable.

This worked, but it is not as stable as the 4 wheelers.

it was cheap and was rated for over 750lbs i think.

Invest in the heavier stand, and for sure get the four-wheeled model. The strength of construction and the larger footprint will make it a lot easier to do work on the engine that requires pulling... like head bolts and such. The $50 is really cheap insurance.

I think I will go with the 2000Lb one then. I just found out that it has 5 wheels, I will see if I can get pics of it to post.

isnt the weak link, the bolts holding the engine on the stand via the bell housing. Ive never really been that comfortable with that set up, of the engine just hanging there, so i put a block of 2x4 to support the bottom of the engine when on the sand, especially when it starts to get all the components put on it. this stand on the picture is holding the short block of the 82 euro motor we built up for scot that is still almost brand new (for sale and could have an owner annouced shortly)
however, it is a little unsettling to move the thing around and have it almost tip over with the 3 wheeler.

doesnt even a stand like this carry 750lbs easily? what do our engines weigh with everything on them?
625lbs??

Yes you should do as porsche suggests in the WSM and have some type of brace from the motor mount boss to the floor.

Use the 2,000 stand, and even that was still a bit elastic in that it would bounce a bit with all the weight.

Thats what you need. I just got one of these larger ones since i built a 2V on a three leg, and it was... scary.

I have found shipping costs to be as important as the stand cost. Where are you getting this one?

I just ordered one that looks very similar to the one in your picture from Summit Racing (2000bl) and paid 132.90 including shipping. They shipped it out the same day!

dont forget the 2 long threaded bolts, and a 2 nut and bolt combination for the engine to mount on the stand.

I have one already, so am not really looking for one, but thought others might appreciate knowing where the deal is.
