'95 5-speed GTS. Any 5-speed GTS for that matter. Actually you could argue that the right-hand drive 928 is the rarest 928 ever produced.

In 1983, Porsche proudly dubbed the 928 'The Fastest Production Car in the US.' Why was this blanket statement somewhat true and false?
The Lamborghini Countach LP500S at the time was the fastest production car. However, because production was so few for that year, The Countach never really was a 'production' car. Only 3 cars at that time were faster than the 928 in 1983 - Ferrari 512 BBi, Lamborghini Countach, and the Porsche 930.

When did the 928 get twin pipes, and when did it get rear resonators and modular exhaust?
1985 1/2 == twin pipes.
1986.5 == rear resonators and modular exhaust

The Porsche 928 was the first vehicle to incorporate what with the steering wheel?
It was the first vehicle to offer adjustable steering height where the gauge cluster moved with the wheel.

Why is the first gear down as opposed to up/forward? Was this pattern used in any other production Porsches?
this pattern first appeared in racing porsches because the R-1 plane was never or very rarely used in racing. The early 924 sported this pattern, but it was soon changed to an Audi unit with conventional pattern
