90GT engine refresh log; Update !!YUCH in there!!
Well, Roger twisted my arm so hard I screamed 'UNCLE'! Okay, I'll get started on fixing my engine. As some of you may recall, I seized the engine in Nov at the local track day. We don't know what is stuck, but stuck it is and well done.
I've cleaned half the garage, and moved my Espada outside, now the 928 is in there, and the hood is off, the jacks are under the chassis; Let's get ready to rumble!!!!!
Any bets on what we're going to find? Sterling posited that it's the crank seized against the thrust journal. Sounds logical to me. The engine was running fine, not overheating, good oil pressure, and as I slowed for a corner, I got it into 3rd, and as I let the clutch out, the rear tires just skidded. No I didn't mis-shift, it was in third.
I'll update this from time to time, with questions and a few photos. Tralaa!

Well, most of the corners are to the left, it wasn't just before, but there was a left turn back a way, and it was a high speed one too.
I got the exhaust off, rear pinch bolt, slave bolts, and some stuff on top done. I was cleaning for a while before starting. I'm gonna have a tough time with those TT housing bolts, they look like a ***** to get off. No Espada pics on this computer, but I'll toss some in later, check back. It's for sale, if anyone really wants a red four seat Lambo.

Good luck with the refresh, Doc! If I had to guess what the problem is, I would say that something broke
Seriously, I have no idea what it could be but am interested in what you find out.

That would be the very first 5 speed to have a thrust bearing failure that I have ever heard of. The far more common GT failure is the 2-6 rod bearing. Some who have experienced that never saw anything wrong until the connecting rod came out the side of the engine block. Keep your fingers crossed maybe it will be salvagable.

Got the AC, smog, PS pumps loose and out of the way. Rad and fans are out, various wires, cables, hoses off the front. Motor mount bolts off, starter and wiring off(bitchy job), fuel lines, throttle asm, and some misc wiring.
Now, I asked this before, and I'm still not sure about the clutch area. My hope is that the release arm, when taken off the ball pivot will clear the bellhousing so I can take the clutch, PP and release arm as an assembly with the engine. It looks like as long as the intermediate shaft is pushed back, once I clear the bellhousing alignment pins, the release arm will clear the top of the inside bellhousing?
Inquiring minds need to know. The top two bolts of the rear bellhousing to torque tube are not accessible with the clutch in. The engine is frozen so I can't get the PP bolts off to pull it. The book says take the PP and clutch first, can't do it that way!
I'll prolly be pulling the engine next Wed/Thur. I'm gonna go ski over the weekend, and I got a few jobs to do on Mon and Tue.

The release arm where it grabs the throwout bearing has a couple inches of movement so once you pop off the ball socket on top you can pull it down out of the way.

hmm, I have in the past gotten the top 2 bolts (bellhousing - TT) out with the clutch in (dual disc though shouldnt make a difference).
It was time consuming but I broke them free with the box end of a wrench then used an air rachet to get them out most of the way. Then got them out with just my fingers.
Good luck with it.

I second what Lizard says..was able to pull the torque tube out of Chris F's car a few years back while at Sharktoberfest...without dropping either the clutch or the tranny..it's tight but they come out...
good luck..

Doc, as they said, it can be done.
One real neat tool to have is this Stanley Ratchet that Jim M showed up with last year. Get it at Walmart for $25.00. Use the box end wrench to break it loose (there is enough to move it a bit) then you can use this nifty tool to take them out.
This is a must have in any tool box.
