I might be interested in them but it would have to be soon. Decide and let me know. Jason
I got a set of chromed S4 wheels. On one of the wheels the chrome started flaking off on the edge where the tire seals to the wheel. I thought I had a hole in the tire somewhere, so brought it to my local Les Scwab tire place. They checked it out and showed me the peeling chrome. Said they see it all the time. Not much to be done about it except strip off all the chrome on the sealing area, but that can lead to further peeling of the chrome.
Since no one else has mentioned this, it does not sound like a common problem. But for me, I'm not going near chromed alum wheels any time soon.
My original D90's were chromed and blacked out on the edges. There was widespread pitting and flaking, they looked like crap. Tried to sell them here, but everyone wisely stayed away. Ended up selling on Ebay for ~$300 to a VW afficionado.
That's because if it is not done right, chroming weakens the underlying metal and is not very durable, so they took a position against it. Done right, no problem, like my flats done by Wheel Enhancement 17 years ago.
Go to wheelcollision.com That is the hydrochromers. Got all four rims hydrochromed which included four rimsfor 900.00. Now I have eight rims with new tires. Four hydrochromed four stock.

And I thought it was as easy as just chroming them. Seems like there is more to this than I thought. Wish I had a chromer local so I could see their process and not have to pay shipping. Anyone know of a chromer in the dallas area?
The local hot rod or chopper guys would know who the good platers are. Any decent plating shop should be able to give you the details on what's involved, prices, etc.
I spoke to a local powder coater that was recommended by some hot rod guys. The guy gave me a 10 min education on powder coating aluminum (aluminium for our cousins across the pond) and why he charged what he did for the work. He told me I could find cheaper powder coating places, but I'd get what I paid for.
