Default chrome plating Rims?

I'm thinking of having my polished 16" PD rims chromed. Anyone have any experience in this area? Cost? Jason

Contact Wheel Enhancement

http://www.wheelenhancement.com

My original flats were chromed by them in 1990 and they still look good today - they were on the car until 2 years ago.

There is a common perception that chroming weakens or embrittles alloy wheels. It can if not done properly to prevent hydrogen embrittlement. Wheel Enchancement understands this. They sell chromed phone dials by exchange.

I had all four of my rims Hydrochromed. Different process, same result at half the price. Contact Wheelcollision.com They are located in New Jersey.

I have seen the ebay auctions and they seem crazy high. Is that the normal price for chrome plating? Jason

If your wheels are polished correctly they will look chrome plated. Why go through the trouble and expense of plating?

Called Wheel Enhancement they quoted me $225.00 each and $100.00 shipping each way. So total $1100.00 and 4 weeks time. Guess I won't be going that route. Jason

Problem is that they are too hard to care for. Right after I got them I cleaned my tires and the cleaner got on the rims and they were ruined. I had to repolish them again with a polish ball to make them look presentable. They really need to be polished and sealed. The real problem is the no sealant. I can't clean them with anything but soap and water.

I've had several wheels custom chromed and painted, and the place that I have found that do the best work, and most reasonably priced is Fast Forward Wheels in San Gabriel California. Wheels make the car

We can get a set of wheels done for $695. Have had many many wheels plated over tha last 17 years. My wife's 79 had chrome phone dial rims for several years they look GREAT at night under the lights. All the curves reflect multiple sparkles. They are not the easiest rims to electroplate the chrome has trouble getting down into the sculpted area near the outer rim and never goes very far down the lug nut recesses.

Wax works pretty well as a protectant.

Yep, they are not cheap, but you can trust their work. Wherever you go to have them done, ask them about hydrogen embrittlement. There is a baking process that alleviates this.

Mine are chromed and I'm thinking about selling them. They are S4 wheels (7 & 8) nice and straight, couple of dings but nothing major, with black painted inside the slots. I like the look, but I'm going to step up to some 18s soon. No idea who did the work on them, but I'd be happy to post some pics.

I called them not more than a year ago and I think they quoted me $100 a wheel. I should have pulled the trigger.
