Default "Over 40 electric motors.."

Was looking at some old 'Car' magazines, with 928-related articles in them. A couple also have S4 adds from Porsche, where they claim the car has "Over 40 electric motors".

I've been adding up those I can more or less figure out it must have, but can get nowhere near 40 in number. Does anyone have a list of where they are / how they are used ?

Cheers,
Erling

Maybe 40 different electric motor movements? Electric seats, mirrors would take up a few.

Mirrors left/right and up/down kinda thing.......Maybe I should get back to work.

I can come up with 38 individual motors off the top of my head for a fully configured car (e.g. 2x 12 way seats, rear AC)

Mirrors: 4
Seats: 12
Fuel Pumps: 2
Hatch:1
Wipers:2
Washer Pumps:3
Windows/Sunroof:3
Cooling Fans:2
Cooling Flaps:1
Headlights:3
HVAC Fans:3
ABS/PSD Pumps:2
I'm sure there are some more ?

So add in the starter (how did I forget) and a cassette player or a motorized antenna & you are done...

From a "poll"/group thinktank on the landsharks email list last year

6 power seats (lower, upper and lumbar - both sides)
2 CD Player
__
10

1 hot/cold air mix
4 Power Mirrors
2 windscreen washers
1 rear hatch
2 power windows
1 sunroof
1 starter motor
1 front wiper
1 rear wiper
1 Headlamp lifter
2 headlight adjusters
1 Cruise Control
1 In-Dash Temp Sensor
2 Cooling Fans
1 Heater fan
1 Electric Aerial
1 ABS Pump
1 PSD Pump
2 Fuel Pumps
2 Door lock servos
1 Cooling flaps

30
But you'ld have to remove electric aerial as it wouldn't have been on 928s with electric headlight adjusters.
But you could change power seats to 10 - squab up/down = 2, forward/back = 1, recline =1, lumbar = 1 per seat

And if Radio head unit was a tape deck with remote CD changer then that would become 4.
And ernests analogue clock
Revised total = 47

On the S4's the door locks are solenoids not motors, agree the antenna was not motorized at the same time as other items.

12 way seats (somewhat rare...) have 6 motors: front & rear height, position (F/R), Backrest Angle, Lumbar position & lumbar deployment.

Don't forget you have pumps for regular washers, intensive washers & headlight washers. Some even have a pump for rear washers (not stock).

Cruise drive is a good addition, so is the mixing flap motor inside the HVAC.

So my revised list:

Mirrors: 4
Seats: 12
Clock:1
Fuel Pumps: 2
Starter:1
Hatch:1
Wipers:2
Cruise Control:1
Washer Pumps:3
Windows/Sunroof:3
Cooling Fans:2
Cooling Flaps:1
Headlights:1
Headlight Adjusters: 2
HVAC Fans(F/R):2
HVAC sensor Fan:1
HVAC mixing motor:1
ABS Pumps:1
PSD Pump:1
Cassette Player:1+
===============
TOTAL:43

I we count the equipment that comes with the car then we could count the emergency spare electric air compressor.

Good going Alan.

The Idle Stabilizer Valve on later cars is driven by a motor, however the WSM wiring diagrams do not reflect this.

Already noted that the door locks are a no (solenoids on S4's), Flappy no (vacuum actuated).

The compressor can certainly be counted, also a CD changer if installed must be worth at least 2 more... Borland - I was unaware of the ISV - what drives it? ECU?
