Default 85 & 86 Oil Filler Gasket ?

Did a search but nothing conclusive.
The 85 & 86 cars have the metal oil filler neck with a plate type gasket.
The gasket is NLA.

What is the solution please?

Replace with the later plastic filler neck and use the rubber O ring type gasket?
Use the existing with a sealant?
Any other solutions please?

Thanks in advance,
Roger

Roger,

I had to chage to the later filler neck /gasket on my 86, it seems kind of cheaply made as compared to the original.

You could probably cut your own. If you just need to seal it, you might try the "Right Stuff". It's like black Cheeze Whiz that turns into rubber. Messy stuff but it holds really well.

Roger, when I did my intake R&R we discovered that the gasket we had didn't work for 85-86, since the 85-86 is the integrated seal/baffle. So, what we (mrmerlin, the Denver group and I) did was apply a thin coat of Permatex high-temp silicone sealant to the old gasket. It wasn't leaking, so this solution may not work for a leaking one.

I think the old baffle plate should be reusable with a thin coat of sealant.

I'd make your own Roger...........or in your case have someone do it from a biz perspective.

You mean I have yet another NLA part just sitting on my shelf? Wow. They are moving alot of parts for the 928 to NLA.

Just buy some paper gasket material and cut it to the proper shape. And use gaskacinch.

I reused the old one with sealant. No leaks and I still have a nice baffle in there.

Just put a standard gasket on both sides of the louvered metal baffle ...that is the best fix 928 107 707 04 times two

That louvered baffle at one time was being sold to 78-84 owners as a way to keep more of the oil down in the crankcase ...

Roger ,

Can't remember any problems fitting the plastic neck.

Way back when I did mine Devek sold a replacement, my old one had separated at the seal. The Devek replacement has held up well.
I agree w/Jim you could do a re-seal on both sides of the old, if it is broken like my old one was, it should not be all that hard to make a new one and use a sealant.

My 87 has the metal oil filler also.
Engine M28/42 81H09648
Does this sound correct for an 87?

Thanks,
Glenn

I used the metal baffle with black silicone on both sides. It seems to have sealed well and i still have the original metal filler and the baffle which seemed like a lot of positive compared to the plastic filler conversion.
