I have an extra of that metal baffled piece for the oil filler neck - when I do my intake R&R, is there a specific direction that the baffles should go? In other words, is one side up and the other down? It came to me seperated. It is from an 86, which is what my car is...

Correct if installed the wrong way it would act as an oil scoop ! Push up more oil than if nothing were installed.

And the answer to your question is: The fins go down.

Roger, I also reused my metal louver plate with a thin coat of gasket sealant on each side as Matt & Roger described above. to be safe I put the filler neck on a level surface and checked it. It was flat, but I blocked it out with some 220 grit until it was all shiny just to be safe.

BRG,
Sounds like another 87 with the metal oil filler. What does your VIN end with and what is your engine number? I'm tring to make sure the engine is an 87.

Thanks,
Glenn

And here's yet another one who just cleaned up the original gasket and added a bit of flexible form-a-gasket. It worked fine....no leaks

Mike
