Default Bought a 928? TAKE CARE or BEWARE

So I get done taking everything off for the tune up I'm doing on the Meteormetallic car......I presumed after initial timing belt check that the belt was probably at least 5 years old or more...Shiny cracked missing some edge pcs.... Anyway- I retensioned twice, after the third light came on i stopped driving it and started tear down....

All is well, needed:
Hood Shocks
Fuel filter
Gear oil fill plug (overtorqued to death) & gasket
cam cover gasket
front seals
intake boots & intake gaskets
timing belt and water pump of course
tensioner rebuild
belts
Oil pan gasket looks like it's leaking, but I will torque it all down before I replace- and unlike some guys, i won't do that job on a creeper, no thanks!

Will need torque tube some time in next 15k I bet. I would like to build the other car up some...Any ideas on cheap naturally aspirated gains beside 968 valve and custom cam grind, exhaust , chip ?

It's amazing how well they hold up. I shoud be finished in 15 hours. Probably by sunday?

968 valves is by no means cheap

if you had a GTS with an LS7 you could get $25,000 for it. Arent LS7's lke $10,000?

You can rebuild an S3 of S4 engine for about $3-4K but if your problems are just leaks then you can do everything for much less.

Even if the whole car was in immaculate condition with new paint, perfect interior, etc and you had a Chevy engine in it. you'd be lucky to get $15k for it. I would gues that the engine and conversion costs about as much, plus paint and interior, etc.

So, only do it for yourself, and expect to lose all money in case you ever want to get rid of it.

I would just find any LS1 or 2. You can get those for less then $4000. I wouldnt put in a brand new LS7 into an 85 928. Thats just a poor marriage if you ask me. The engine is worth more then the whole car.

Here is a thought: If you'd fit a seat sideways in the back, you may be able to sell your hybrid to Dan Glerb for a good price and come out ahead. Otherwise it's a very negative investment.

There was a big block conversion on a 928 recently listed on ebay. Very clean car, and well set up.

I believe that car sold for north of 15 K, so a good car has it's appeal.

Marton,
The bottom roller was seized up real good, I'm sure it was causing the belt to flap around right at the tensioner!!! Good thing I got in there when I did, or else KABOOM....Valve crunch.

As for the LS7- I want to build the factory five GTM one day, and if I had the LS7 in a 928, I'm one step closer to the GTM, know what I mean??? It's so hot...500hp with Ti valvetrain and rods!!!!! That is so hot...I wonder how the car would do on track days??

Very tempting...I could put in a cheapo ls1 and get a blower one day, but might as well just sc the 928 motor right? ls7 is an enigma and one hell of a deal for what you're getting. I think the 928 would be untouchable with that motor.

Might be "old tech" but the fact is, they work.
