The Final Word on FORD motor mounts...?

I saw a cross section photo showing the internal structure of the OEM mount, which is more complex than I imagined. It would be interesting to see what the Anchor mount looks like inside. Anyone care to slice one?

Since you have the wider wheels/tires, consider upgrading to a '91+ steering rack from Porsche. Then, when the pump fails, upgrade that to the lighter weight, higher pressure pump (you'll need pump and bracket). You will get more, but not too much power assist that way - but parking will no longer be a "workout". I'm sooo glad I now have the correct rack in my car again...

Donald,et al,
I currently have the Anchor (Ford) solids installed in my '89 GT with no ill effects. I added a large area washer to both upper and lower studs on the mounts to keep the proper height. Just as easy to install as the Porsche mounts, and hopefully I'll get more than 1-2 years out of them like I did with the Porsche mounts. Yes, that's about how long my last set of OEM mounts lasted. These solids should last a VERY long time, and at only $24.00 each from Rock Auto, they were one hell of a bargain as compared to the OEM. I've had no vibration issues, nor engine rocking, as some have speculated. They work/feel just like they should. IMHO there ARE places on a 928 where it's best to go OEM, but the mounts aren't one of them. I've talked to too many folks who had early failures of the OEM mounts, one of which was only a month after installing them. To me that opens the door to try new (less expensive) alternatives. Just my 928 cents worth.

Three Wheelin'
I think it's great that we have people on this board that are willing to try other things like non-OE parts without condeming the purests, Kudos!
In the picture below, number 5 is the hollow area of the Porsche motor mount that is filled with a alcohol/water mixture.
Could a person drill out the ball bearing/ stopper shown on the left side of the upper stud, re-expand the mount back to it's factory dimension and refill with a polyurethan?

Brand new OEM Porsche mounts (2 weeks old). you can see the height differance against the cross brace.
BTW. One of the originators(I think) of the Ford mount useage,
Ray Wach,is in the UK for a few days & I will be meeting him tomorrow so will ask on his current view. (he is not on the forum)

Buy OEM
Im just glad that my mounts look almost new. ONE thing the PO did correct. Go figure ....................
Normy - your s2 is a work of art. Bite the bullet (if you can afford too) and buy the oem part. Why mess w/modding a part.
Part number 928 375 03900
www.Autohausaz.com has them for 239.18 (Disclaimer - not trying to remove business from the big three, its just autohausaz is in Phoenix)
Good Luck
