Talking 1984 928 in San Leandro - Restarting thread

I heard back from the owner of the Car Store today about that blue 1984 928 in San Leandro.

The car was traded in at Carlson Porsche for a Boxster. They had just had it smogged recently where it passed with flying colors. Carlson had also gone over the car and said the car did not need a timing belt/water pump service.

He has offered to give the car up for a pre-purchase inspection to anyone whom I chose to have a look at it. As far as the 'lag in acceleration' email comment goes, he knows how a 4.7L drives and a 5.0L car drives and said "this car isn't a 928 GTS." Another salesman had emailed that comment to me and he was rather unsettled about what I had told him.

I take it this dealership may know their stuff. He is very negotiable on the car and is taking more pictures for me as we speak!

If anyone is available to have a look at the car and drive it, please PM me. I don't have a lot of money to do a professional repair shop PPI, but I'll see what I can do.

The car has been on the market for a while. Looks like someone was pretty liberal with the armoral.

The car is also listed on ebay with many more pics.

If you are looking at OBs there is an 81 that might be interesting. I don't know anything more than what the ad says. If it truely has a 4 speed auto there was an upgrade at some point. Plus he might be more apt to deal on it. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/530825573.html

That '81 is a nightmare. Enough said. This '84 maybe a good deal if I can find out more about how the car drives.

Mongo's like a drunk in a bar at 1:45 am, the harder he looks at some cars on the interweb, the prettier they get...

Hell yea. I'm sharkbit again!

I contacted a place that can do a PPI on the car. Not sure if $100 for a PPI is expensive or not. This would be the first time I'd be paying someone to completely go over a car for me.

Fremont Foreign Auto. I'm waiting on a paycheck and thinking about this.

A $100 seemed like a lot, but in reality, it sure as hell beats spending a **** load of money later on when other things go pop on that car.

Actually, they could be OK. I've heard positive comments from 928 owners.

I should still be down there by mid-next week and will look at and drive it.

The most important thing to me I feel like is how that transmission shifts. My S4 has a rebuilt transmission in it. I'm not too sure I would have wanted my red car if it needed a tranny because it didn't shift smooth.

I just told Andy over the phone that $100 for a PPI is cheap. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think this is actually unreal. Porsche shops around here charge anywhere from $100 to $150 per hour, so you'd get less than an hour of PPI time - not very much.

I'm planning to take a look at the car tomorrow in the early afternoon. Anybody want to join me?
