Question 928 timming belt

I have a 1984 928S auto w/68,000 miles. I am changing the water pump and timming belt. Is there any thing else that I should change or repair? Thanks Harry

The Tensioner Boot -
Tensioner Boot Clamp -
Tensioner Gasket -
Idler Roller
Main Tensioner Roller
Lower Crank Roller (bearings Only)
Oil Return Tube Gasket. (Must be removed for access)
Medium Strength Loctite
9 Quarts of Oil
Oil Filter
Radiator Fluid

BTW - Welcome to the 928 family here at Rennlist.
A couple of tips.

Make sure the cams/crank are at TDC. Mark the front of the cam pulleys in relation to the notch on the rear of the cams. Makes it easier to find TDC.
Never turn the Crank AntiClockwise.
Drain Water & Oil

Hope all goes well!

Harry,
Yes rebuild the tightening unit, and check/tighten all the v belts
For the tightening unit you need a rep. set: I.e. Gasket, boots, boot straps, o-ring and gear oil
Also check/renew the rollers

You might also consider replacing the rad. hoses and the accessory belts. They all have to come off so you may as well go back together with fresh ones.

There are a couple of nylon parts that areimoprtant to replace. There are white and look like a tiny cup with a diangle slot on the side. Ask a porsche tech. A cheap part but important. Can someone help me on this one?

Drewster,

703 posts and you are not a member yet? Bet it is just an oversight, huh. I know I kept forgetting to sign up....amazing that you can still get such a great deal for 18 bucks a year, eh?

I also replaced my main crankshaft seal, the oil pump seals, and the front camshaft seals. It was not that much extra effort while everything was apart.

Mine has a good bit more mileage than yours, but it still may be a good idea for yours as well, simply due to the age.

Also, while I had the crank balancer off, I masked it, and sprayed on a fresh coat of orange paint. I filled in the numbers with a black fine point sharpie, and it looks great.

Gretch, I'll tell you what. Since I've been unemployed for almost 2 years and every penny that comes in is accounted for. I'll sell some blood or plasma to pay the 17 dollars to make you happy.

Eventually, until then - Don't worry about it. I apologize if I come across as rude but you hit a sensitive subject.

If you would like to continue this discussion, off the board, send me an email!.

Drew,

Over 700 posts and I'd bet more than 600 have been in reply to someone elses problems. Think that qualifies you as a giver rather than a taker so please keep on posting.
