Question Other "normal" cars you like?

I was wondering...

While I contemplate Z06's, and as I drive to work, I look at all the other cars on the road, I realize that very few cars look as nice as the 928 (to me at least). Some of them are faster, or more reliable, or cheaper... I kept thinking if there was any car I would trade my car for. I am not talking about Ferarris and Lambos here. I am talking about Corvettes, Z's, Supras, etc... Are there any "normal" cars out there that you guys really like? I find very few that hold a candle to the looks of the 928... It's such a unique looking car. BMWs and Audis look like cookie cutter boxy sedans... No character or style. Slick, but no soul... The 90's Z's are decent, albeit a rip-off of the 928... Supras are ok... Anything else?

Lotus Esprit Turbo. Its not as pretty, but its as unique as they come and the price used (about 45-50K for a 98-99) is "doable"

Though I'm sure the reliability (sorry to my British buds) makes our cars look like Toyota Camry's.

re: Lotus

Back in college, I was going to buy a used Europa (had the parental units convinced the gas mileage was the reason! This was the 70's...1st 'shortage').

On the test drive, the accelerator cable snapped...8 weeks later, the dealer was still waiting on the part so we could finalize the deal...so much for the MPG factor!

I love the Ferrari Mondial. Not going to sell the 928 to get it, but thats the next car to have for me. 95% of the cars out there just do not appeal to me. Never did like Vettes.

I guess I like the unique types.

I'd vote for the Magnum PI 308 Ferrari or the 82' black on black vette I owned once...not real fast straight line or cornering but who gives a rats butt I enjoyed it.

Carry on boys!

I like the more unique cars like:

BMW M1,
Lotus Elan (not the newer version),
Maserati Khamsin,
Lamborghini Muira,
Lancia Stratos and Ferrari 365.

Of course, I do have my Porsche 928 and a Honda Accord !

maybe not "Normal" the Pantera De Tomaso -

A ford Hybrid that is stout by all means. Along with my GTS dreams, that's next in line.

Enter Pantera in the search field.

Cool

Since you said "normal" I'll not mention the Ferrari 308's and Lamborghini Countach's that I've coveted for decades.

Well...last Christmas I was sent to Ontario on a trip. Not the Canadian province, but the suburb of Los Angeles. While there I stayed at a hotel near the Ontario Mills Mall...which of course was the main focus of my day's entertainment needs.

-Lots of cute SOCAL types in that place! I could have worn it raw just with the people in view within 100 feet of the door...

[I'm a **** and proud! ]

Anyway, there was a Nissan 350Z parked on display in the food court. Next to a Hyundai Tiburon. Normally, you'd think that the one from the land of the Rising Sun would handily defeat looks-wise the machine built by kimchi-eaters...but that was not the case. The Tiburon was cool, well proportioned, and properly detailed [with the exception of the silly Ferrari 456-like false air intakes on the side]. It really is a budget Audi TT with even better styling. NOT bad-

But if I had to ditch my 928 and buy something else, I bet I would look at Boxsters, Audi TT's, and Mercedes SLK's. I bet I would go for the SLK for its look, even though the Boxster is a Porsche and handles better, and the Audi is more practical and cooler overall.

[Check this out the next time you see one: Audi TT's are gorgeous cars...but the people that drive them are almost always just the opposite!]

The mandatory automatic transmission of the SLK would drive me crazy...but the look of that car would probably make up for it in the end.

-And then again, Ford makes some seriously decent Mustang Cobras these days....

Personally, I would look seriously at late 80's Bentley Turbo R's or mid-90's BMW 750's. Price ranges around 15-17k for both, I believe. But, only as a second car. Always fancied an old British sports car, though, like an MGB or Triumph TR6 (knowing full well that upkeep would far outweigh the cost), just as something to play with.

I'd like to spend a year in an Audi A4 or A8. All wheel drive. Decent couple styling. All wheel drive. 5spd please. Some excellent tires. Sounds like fun.

Few contenders to the sHARk really, for me the Lotus Esprit Turbo (mustard yellow but I hate the cheaplooking front end), a rust free Maserati Merak SS, and lets face it there isn't a shark owner among us who doesn't drool for the early E-types. Was considering NSX too for a while, but the reality is when it comes time to put my money down, no question, it'll be another 928, later model this time, 5 speed, dark paint.

I'm kinda partial to the 60-62 DeSotos and Plymouths; you know the ones with the 747 tail fins, are these normal cars?
