News Flash: The 928 is no longer considered a heavy car.

A new BMW 3 series is 3600 lbs!!! A 3 series! And it has ~300hp, near the same as the later 928, but enough electronic controls that the driver probably only has use of it 10% of the time.

I suppose when the 928 was "ahead of its time" - it was also there in terms of weight. When compared to contemporary cars it is average.

Ford uses a different firing order on their small block V8s than GM does. That is why they sound different.

Chevy sb and bb V8s: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Ford 351C/M/W V8s: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Porsche 928 V8s: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Ford 260/289/302 V8s: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

I am almost sure that some of the 302's had 2 different firing orders.
I know they had 2 different distributor rotations that are not interchangeable, it will wipe out the cam. Ask me how I know.

its funny how "fat and lazy" 3500lb 928's are the same size and weight as 911's now...... Ya the GT500 is a big at over 4000lbs.....sure 500hp makes up for alot...

Fixed camber regardless of brake dive or acceleration squat on the solid axle. But all that unsprung weight can't be fun for the spring/shocks to reign in.
Wonder if they needed to go to titanium or Magnesium solid axle castings for the race cars.
Them Mustangs must hate Lime Rock and its less than billiard table smooth racing surface.

My ex-Audi FWD 5000s had a beam axle holding out the 2 rear wheels. It kept the trunk from dragging on the asphalt.

No, it's because a 1978 928 with custom exhaust was used to dub the chase scenes.

Ahh, but that is a C4S, with a bit of unecessary drive train (unless you live where you need it).

I think the Carrera S is more of a comparison to a 928, being they are both RWD.

By my calcs using your comparo to the C4S, the GT3 is knocking at your door to the tune of only about .04 lb/hp more?

The Mustang 67-68 in Bullit was a 390 as I recall BUT the sound track was from the camera car ...a big block Chevy Can Am prototype sports racer with a none syncro transmission hence all the double clutching !! modified to hold the cameras ....Movie magic one more time.
