Everything else is true... solid axle Mustangs handle like pigs, all have the same boring exhaust note (although better than Chevy engines), but they are usually quick in a straight line. Although in the hands of a good driver, they are a fun ride around a road course.
I agree with everything that you said except the tone. Mustangs always had a unique and very nice exhaust tone. I think it has more to do with firing order than enything else. I can tell when a Mustang is coming from a mile away. Evey other V8 sounds the same.

Amen, I have really frightened myself more than once in my 92 5.0L, never had a bad momen tin the 928 even on the Ring.

Also true

Funny story, here you have to have a very comprehensive Government test of all parts of your auto every 2/3 years.
Last test they told me there was a new rule! It is not allowed that the exhaust sticks out beyond the back of the car - they encouraged me to saw off the too long bits!! See foto. Sounds a lot better now!!; somehow I think the testers also thought new rule is stupid

I spent some time with Griggs Racing at an event where they were trying to recrute us for the V8Supercar challenge series. I mentioned that the solid axle must be a disadvantage, and Bruce Griggs was quick to disagree and actually talked about its advantages if set up properly, vs a independent suspension. I dont know enough to comment on what he said, but he is the Mustang guy here on the west cost and a pretty good racer himself.
He is also based out of a shop at Sears Point.

I'm pretty sure the firing sequence is the same on the small ford as it is on the sbc, if you number the cylinders the same-- make the rf cylinder #1 on both, and lo and behold. Miracle? Coincidence? I think not...

The "advantage" of the solid rear axle is lack of camber change plus most race tracks are rather smooth free of potholes (at least on the track ) The qualifier " if set up properly " makes the comment pretty meaningless ! Until I see F-1 cars running solid axles ... I think I know what is the superior design

Means new - double adjustable uppers control arms with spherical bushings. lower control arms, anti-roll bar, adjustable double springs, adjustable shocks, wider wheels, sticky tyres; say $2/3K plus labor & that is just for the rear end.

Put the usual dual Flowmaster 40 or Borla catback exhaust with an H-pipe on any SBF and they all sound the same. It doesn't matter whether it's a Mustang, Cobra, Bronco, or F-150. Without much effort, you can make a Dodge or Chevy sound the same.

I find it interesting that when you park the 928 next to a new Mustang, the 928 looks really tiny. Even though it really isn't a small car...

Very true, and one of the reasons they are nice cars. Power to weight is an important factor in the universe.
