Egad!

Wonder what "needs TLC" means.

Add $10K+ in repairs once you buy it!

Its an OK deal depending on the TLC but the person who said its under valued by 8k is nuts. I would never pay 20k+ for a 928GT that needs TLC!! I guess the ratty GTS on ebay that has a buy it now of 20,500 is under priced by 8k as well.. shoot they can't even sell that for 20..

If every bit of maintenance has piled up, get ready for $$$ and time to get it right. Look at how much work Rob has put into a "nice" '90 GT that had 107k on the clock.

He may have bought it at auction and he's looking for a quick sell. Drives beautifully at speed. So does it idle? 3k miles in the 4.5k years. Was it while you owned it or was it with the PO owner?
With that mileage and that price, I don't see how you can go wrong as long as its just needing routine maintenance. Maybe his mechanic quoted him $6k to replace engine mount, intake refresh, p/w leak etc and that forced the sale. Again, anyone in the market for a GT go and get it before the price goes up. Go and buy it today because tomorrow they may want $15-17k for it.

I can get down there to look at it later in the week, I think. If it's still there. A walkaround cosmetic PPI is possible.

A 'good condition' car like with just mechanical maintenance stuff will easily eat $5k in the first month. Cosmetic restoration can be a black hole, as we all know.

-----

Rob's GT project is a great example for those thinking about stepping onto the slippery slope. Rob is just a little particular about getting everything just right, not necessarily a bad thing. He's aware of the value of that kind of work and care, and is not afraid to jump in to a little weekend project like drop the gearbox and whole rear suspension to renew a few pieces, and replace the TT, clutch and all its sniggly bits, shocks and springs, bushings, etc. And steam-clean everything to new appearance on the way. You probably don't need to do a lot of calculator math to see the money and time invested. He manages to squeeze this in while caring for a family with small children and maintaining his teaching and hospital schedules.

Somebody buy this car!

12.5K? I just threw up a little in my mouth....

It's real close to me, I should go have a look at it. My Dad's still looking. Or I could use it as a parts car.....

Dan----

I'm not "nuts" as you say, by my comment of it being under "priced" by $8K.

there are no specifics as to what it needs, nor what is wrong with it, if anything. it may only need an oil change.....? without a PPI, you're shooting in the dark.

Yet, the overwhelming opinion here is that it is a "good buy" at the price listed, which leads me to believe that it may be under priced.

the GTS you referenced is said to have been a flood/wrecked/salvage car, although the advertisement says otherwise.

as with anything 928, the prices vary wildly.

(an S4 was recently bought for $1700-been sitting for 7 years, $5K later it's reportedly a good drive//// a very low miles GTS was recently advertised for $80K//// and there's everything in between.....)

every time this subject comes up, the gallery pipes in about how much this costs and how much you'll spend in the first, second, third years ad nauseum.....

buyer beware------PPI first, and then you'll know if really a buy, or a basket case.

Rob's dad needs a GT!! Rob needs a house with enough room for another car, room for the folks, and/or money to pay the divorce settlement.
