Post Help with pet

sort of....

I was given a PET CD (electronic parts catalog) and I cannot get it to install or run. Maybe someone can offer a suggestion. When I try to install it with the file petsetup.exe, I get a message that the file is not a windows 32 application. There is a readme.txt and a autorun.inf file and neither does anything. The open in a window and no text is there. Any ideas? Is the CD incomplete? I have windows 98. Do I need newer operating system?

Thanks in advance

cheers

Your monitor must have 1280x1024 resolution.

How are you trying the install?.

1.) Through control panel - add/remove programs.
2.) CD Directory - If you haven't gone this route

Go to my Computer, (with CD in tray), locate the setup (setup.exe) icon, probably within a subfolder, and double click.

Click yes to install onto the local hardrive and next(to all that apply) to finish the installation. (View read me file later) If it asks you to install within the subfolder C rogram, do so. IF you change the location of the program, you may not be able to access this file. Also, your PC may require a reboot once the file has been loaded.

(QA Tester/Training/Network Installation/Hardware-Software Configuration Specialist) FYI -

PS - Are you positive this program is 98 compatible?. What version of 98 are you running?. (There is an upgrade version available but this shouldn't be relative)

Good Luck

One more thing - Does it require Adobe Acrobat to view the catalogue?. (same as 928 International cat).

Thanks again

1280x1024 is not required for the program to run, but you lose some of the top-right buttons off the screen. depending on your resolution it may be unusable, but it WILL run.

Acrobat or Acrobat Viewer is NOT required for PET. PET is the viewer.

i'm runninng it on 95, but i think a guy at work is running it on 98.

did your cd come with the HARDLOCK.EXE file? PET requires a hardware key dongle, hardlock.exe makes PET think it's there.

you should see these files on the cd:

and sould see this when you run petsetup:

Joe,
Not quite sure why you're having trouble w the install but I've run on win98 and xp w/o problems. I've got two versions of it. Let me know if you need another copy to try.

I downloaded a utility from Powerstrip.com to tease higher resolution out of my old monitor. My Pet5 CD did install with less than 1280x1024 monitor resolution. The application would not fit on the screen of the lower resolution monitor. Therefore, I could not access commands. I bought a MAG 1280x1024 monitor for less than $100 after rebates at Best Buy. Now PET5 works just fine.

Since my monitor is not huge, when I am not using Pet, I use a lower resolution.

See the readme file that came with the cd below:

Hi, Welcome to the un-authorised version of PET.
This version should run on Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98/ME
and Windows NT 4.0/2000

A couple of things worth noting:-

1) - This program will only run on a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 or greater.

2) - To enable the prices within the catalogue, rename the file
"preis.sav" found in the "pet_root" directory to "preis.e"
- This is for the "England" country version. These prices
are only a guide, don't trust them !

3) - When printing you may have to edit the "ETKA_PO.INI" file found in the
Pet_Prog directory to set the correct paper size for your country by
removing the # before the correct entry and placing a # before "Paper=A4".

4) - If using on Windows 2000, the installer may detect the operating sysem as
Windows 95, and load the wrong files, simply copy the contents of the
PET_PROG.NT4 directory, except the INI files, onto your local hard disk
overwriting the existing ones.

Exclamation

Another note - when I first tried to install PET, a message appeared on screen that it would not install without 1280x1024 resolution. The application detects monitor settings. It would not install at all until I bumped up the resolution some. Does that not happen with earlier versions?
