I'm not sure why you want to re-tune your Murf kit beyond the chips that he supplies - have you changed the spec in some way ?

I was just reminding you that if (for example) you increase he boost, you need to monitor the onset of knock, for safety. PorKen has posted on RL how he fitted a knock sensor on his 85/86 cr and used it with a Knocklite to monitor detonation.

I would take your time with tuning. You can do 90% on the street, all you need is cruise for much of the maps and bursts of WOT in a lowish gear so no excessive speeds involved.

John,

The chips I first received were never burned for my 86, as far as I know only timing was pulled for safety .
I never had the 86 car Shark Tuned after I purchased Tims kit. I even bought some parts from you, purchased the chips and it was ready to go. If you remember Tim did not bring the cable when he came to Florida to tune it so it was never tuned. We did a seat of the pants and Data logged drive up the street but nothing was tuned. If you were following my old posts you maybe aware that I was having severe surging so Tim sent a copy of Shane's chips, it did not help. As a note the original really bad surging was eliminated by reconfiguring the piping to the Maf, not a chip change.
I am using Shane's chips now but are burned for a stage three, I am running a stage one, I live in Florida with a lot of heat and am just not comfortable the way it is. I have never been able to completely eliminate the surging until I relocated the Maf and set it up as a puller. I have an X-pipe and a semi RMB and have had the Maf modified so it is adjustable.
I just relocated the Maf and is now back under the fender and the A/F ratios are completely different, very rich. This indicates to me that the S/C has a large effect on the Maf and the way it operates. I am in the process of getting it the A/F back in line and a few more up the street runs will get it pretty close.

Simply said I don't think that there is enough S/C 85-86's out that a generic chip will provide the max power and safety margin I need. I find myself under driving this car due to the fear factor. I would like to do this right and sleep at night. I have wanted to convert it to a Mega-Squirt to take control of the tuning, this is the hardest but most cost effective solution for me. With your product the logical step is to try to acquire your ST and keep things stock. You have a wonderful product and I don't understand why anyone would settle for a pretty good generic tune. I guess someone could acquire a S/T get customers cars from 85 to 94's offer them a free tune with your product and sell the chips. I maybe wrong but every car is a little different and thats why your product is needed or if not you may have done the chip sales by now. But with me it's all about doing it right and peace of mind, I hope you can understand where I am coming from, just trying to find an option!
If you feel a knock sensor is needed I can look into that before I Shark Tune it!

Hi Andy, yes, my memory is crap ! My head is full of all sorts of stuff, and my memory cells are erased weekly :-)

As you are running lower boost, then I suggest you just fit a stock EZ-F chip, they have plenty of timing in hand for that level. Then focus on the LH tuning which you should be able to do on the street.

Are you still using stock injectors and the FMU ?

My name is Mark but sometimes I forget it also !
I am running 7 Lb's, no inter-cooler but looking at Methanol Injection, 24 Lb's stock Inj and a Fmu.
Let me mention, I am the head of my neighbor hood watch and I'm the one that gets watched. Since we have so many Sharks over my house I could blame the test runs on one of them, but crazy mikes car is white mine is black.

Drive 10 miles and do your runs there on a nice quiet road :-)

Thanks for the details. I don't see a problem.

I would be willing to purchase a Sharktuner with the 85/86 option, install it on a fully rugged laptop with serial port, and rent it out. I know Rick has already generously offered, so don't want to interrupt that transaction, but would be happy to do it for other people.

Roger, does your ST rental include the 85/86 option? And when would it be available?

I'm not Roger, but the SharkTuner 2 (which is what he's offering) does not accomodate the 85/86 cars. ONLY the SharkTuner Mk1 can with a special option from John Speake.
