Just to clear the air - I never said you were a liar. (know one likes to be called a liar and neither do I) I just don't think it was a Euro you raced. Maybe a Euro body with all the trimm but not the engine or the M28/22&21 was not up to par.

You yourself ran the calculator with the given fact numbers - The TL was 1.1 sec slower than the S2?.

I do have a question, did you buy the TL new or Used?. If used, do you know if there were any modifications done to it?. Chip, exhaust or what not?.

If new and no modifications, how would explain the calculator differences?.

Bench Racing... I used a real life example from the street. That same calculator tranlates to an *** whipping for the Euro delivered by a C5... So is the calculator factual or is your kill story?

Your question..How do you explain the calculator differences?

If that calculator determined what could run what the NHRA, NMRA would not exist.

Bought new 2/01, one of the first purchased in the US upon it's introduction. I actually bought it at the new car show held every February at the Superdome.

On AVERAGE a TL-S will run mid 14's, plenty enough to challenge a Euro 928 in a drag race.

Why are you all sooooooooooo defensive?

And as Carlos said, to say that gear ratio has nothing to with it is rediculous.

Or in the words of Mike Tyson - ludicith

That one factor explains how a car with less HP and near equal weight runs comparable times. And also shoots that calculator out the window since it does not take that into consideration.

It's a Euro with MSDS headers and Nology wires. The car is immaculate, probably one of the nicest Euro's around. My friend purchased it from someone extremely wealthy that is a purist who even owns a 908. The car is as much a Euro as any on the board and is in excellent condition with 80,00 miles. The car even ran a 14.20 or 14.30 on a G-tech.

Then there is something wrong with the S2. Either that or the driver needs practice. Just because you have the car doesn't mean you know how to drive it!.

You yourself ran the calculator with the given fact numbers - The TL was 1.1 sec slower than the S2?. [/QUOTE]

You forget, these numbers are not inclusive of driver error/traction or reaction time. Once again the 2-8 is not a drag car.

It looks like your the one getting defensive. I could care less about a frickin rice burner. I know what I have and I know that a TL can't hold a flame to my S2.

Your friend needs to have his S2 looked at. I suspect that either his throttle cables are slacked or he just can't drive!.

I'm done with this useless hijacked thread. Sorry ViribusUnits, but you just can't reason with Stubborn people.

Damn Drewster I'm disappointed in you.

I thought we were keeping things amicable and having a pretty civil discussion about cars.

I guess you've realized you were painting yourself into a corner and became upset. You decided to bring the calculator into the discussion not me. You can't have it both ways though. A simple fact is that there is nothing wrong my friends Euro and he is an average driver just like myself and most on this board. He does DE the car at Porsche events at the local track. The simple fact remains that a TLS will run a comparable 1/4 mile time to a Euro. On Average.
Or is it that the C5 driver couldn't drive and if he could he would of won based on the calculator. Or there must be something wrong with the C5 or he would have won based on the calculator.

Your reaction reminds me of the days as a kid playing ball in the neighborhood. There was always one ***** in the bunch, that when they did not get their way, or could not win, they picked up there glove and ball and ran home.

I'm not saying your a *****, just that your reactions remind of a few. Go back and look at who jumped who here and why I have been forced to defend my position.

The bottom line and my point about Hondas/Acuras is this. There are VTECH engines that have comparable acceleration (1/4mile) performance to the 928 Euro and S4.

It's nothing to get so twisted over, as you said these cars are not drag cars. right?

p.s. Saw a post on the OT. My prayers and thoughts go to you and your family regarding your brothers deployment. I am a Gulf War Vet and can relate to the situation. May God protect him and deliver him back too the people who love him most and to the nation he so proudly defends and represents.

Thank You for your kind words regarding my brother. He was indeed at The Gulf war and he still refuses to talk about it. He was/is a combat medical soilder. He is on his way to Iraq for another term. Stupid, Stupid war. The only thing I wish is that I could go with him to watch his back or die trying!.

Now - back to the debate. Okay, the old saying - Ignorance is Bliss. Ive run against vtec before, and I've never had a problem with them in my 928. My 924s on the other hand, got beat by a Vtec, almost a full car lengths. Yeah, sometimes my Italian in me (my moms last name is Mantovani) gets the best of me.

Ive just never experienced a loss to a vtec - that said, Ive never ran against NSX either. As far as the palyground is concerned. I was the who talked the talk and walked the walk until I got my *** beat. Boy what a Humble feeling that was.

Kudos to you and the TL - sincerely and no punn intended.

Maybe one day I'll have a chance.

Thanks again for the kind words and may all the men and women fighting for this cause have God on their side.

Peace

When I first read Abby's story I was intrigued that he had stomped an S2 with his TLS (here and thereafter will be refered to as the Rice Rocket). My self personally with an S2 had a completely different experience racing a comprable Rice Rocket. Only "I made it up" because the Rice Rocket lost. Then 3 other S2 owners/former owners chime in with similar tales of the performance of an S2.

So who are you to believe, one person who has never owned or driven a healthy S2 and formerly owned the Rice Rocket(convinent about the formerly). The 4 owners of S2s all with similar experiences. Or the complimentary list troll who has nothing better to do than make stupid comments on threads of this nature. Draw your own conclusion.

Personally the more I here about this "S2" that raced this Rice Rocket I am convinced it was a US model or had a US engine. I personally have recoreded a 13.4 on a gtech pro, but I don't bring that up because those things are so inconsistant. However, I could very well see a US model 928 recording a 14.2 on one. Mostly because that is what they seem to turn in the quarter mile. The fact that the car was formerly owned by a very wealthy owner implies nothing to me other than he didn't work on it and probably had no clue what engine was actually in it. My car was formerly owned by an IMSA factory Porsche GTP driver, but you don't hear me saying that makes my car faster. As a matter of fact there are some questionable things done to my car I am still working on undoing.

The worst part is I keep hearing this crap about gearing. Well if you would do your research you would find the first 3 gears of the Rice Rocket and the Euro S2 are almost identical. I would prove it, but it would only be in vain. So what is the point. If you want to drive a car with close gears you can have a ride in my 1980 FSP Scirocco that takes 3 gears to hit 60mph. If my 928 had those gears the Tire Rack would be my best friend.

I do have to admit, at least this thread has proved what this board thinks about Hondas. In general they think they are nice cars, but don't compare them to our Porsches.

Quaz your hilarious. Your blind foolish pride has made you now twist my words. I never said you made it up. I simply questioned if it was a race where both parties started at the same time or was simply a show of force, but who really cares except for you the DEFENDER OF THE GRAY MARKET MOBILE (thought it would be fun since you started name calling)

How do you know I've never been in a healthy GMM?(short for GRAY MARKET MOBILE)
I drove and rode in a new GMM in 1985 while living in Germany on the A-Bahn breathing frick'n Bavarian air. It was running on 7 not 8 right? Nobody could drive there either OR It had a US motor... If you think I just made that up, you can easily do a search of my posts and see I have referenced this before.
The funniest thing is you've probably never driven a TL-Stype Rice Rocket...

I never knew that '84-'86 GMM 5-speed is as quick in the 1/4 as a '95 GTS 5-speed...

But as this thread grows the damn times keeps getting faster... by the time I buy a Gray Market Mobile they will be turning 11.50's....You know some **** Quaz.

You are correct for sure on this though, they are nice cars but not as nice as a Porsche... Truly.

Your welcome to have the last word or we can agree to disagree.

Abby,

Well at least we can both laugh at this now as it has become absurd. Like you I have a very storied auto past as I worked as a tech for a VW dealer during college years ago and got to drive just about everything under the sun. Recently I have not driven a TLS (Rice Rocket), but I have driven an NSX, Integra Type R, Vette C5, ZR-1, 300ZXTT, S2000, etc......... So I have a pretty good idea of what it take for an auto to move. My current garage has an Audi A4, Volvo wagen T5-R, GTI 1.8t, 928 S2, and VW Scirocco AutoX car. I know cars.

The point about the G-Tech pro is that they are useless in my book. If you have a down hill slope, tail wind, or shift hard it can affect the time. They are a good point of reference if you are comparing cars using the same unit, on the same day on the same road. Otherwise they leave a lot to be desired. 13.4 was my best time in screwing around with one and I laughed when I saw it because I knew it was fairly optimistic. I would never quote someone that as my cars time down a strip.

As for the race I had against a TLS if you must know. I was on a metered enterance ramp when this TLS (Truly a Rice Rocket) pulls up next to me. He had been trying to bob and weave through traffic to catch up with me and got into the right/wrong spot next to me on the entrance ramp. I wasn't even going to punch it, but my wife (of all people) told me not to take that crap. Well when the light turned green I heard a ton of racket from this thing next to me because he must have had an intake, and coffe can full of hornets on it. I admit in first gear he stayed with me better than I expected, but as the speeds increased I pulled away from him unitl I backed out at about 80 and he blew by me with his foot still on the floor. That is when I discovered it was a Type S.

As for my opinion of Hondas, I have owned 3 and all of them were quite reliable transportaion. Boring, but nice cars. The only Honda I have been very disapointed in was the S2000. To make that thing move you had to drive it like you stole it and even then it wasn't any quicker than my Volvo.

Anyway, we obviously have different opinions so I can live with that. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Something to note, all VTECs are not created equal.

The best of the bunch is suppost to be a dohc, 3-phase system. Apperently, it isn't in the US.

The second best is suppost to be the dohc system. It is suppost to act like the engine has two diffrent cams. This one I like.

The third best is suppost to be the sohc system. Instead of adjusting both the intake and the exaust valves, it only adjusts the intake.

The worst of the bunch for prower production is the sohc VTEC-E engine. At low rpms it closes one of the intake valves to induce a fuel saveing spin on the gasses entering the combustion chamber.

Only the high end cars have the dohc system, so unless you've been raceing the dohc system, you haven't met the full potential of the VTEC.

That could easily explain the contradictory storys...

VU,

Go to the link and visit the TYPE-S Forum and you can talk High Tech VTEC's all day with these guys.

Be careful if you mention you have a Porsche though, they might gang up on ya. If so, I think you know where to find re-enforcements!

Quaz and Drew, do you got his back?

But then I'd get a biased replay!?!?!?!?!

And I'd get jealouse, becuse all I've got is the anemic US 928S 4.7l 234 and not much else hp engine!

Their V6 makes more power than my larger V8. Yuck!?!?!?!?!

And this thread was NOT suppost to get this long. You'll notice I didn't post very many posts on it. I just wanted to see if Porsceh folks thought the Honda stuff was fancy marketing, or actualy good stuff. I was leaning toward fancy marketing myself.

Turns out, its actualy good stuff.

Now, if the thread will just die!

Cool

Abby? Just one little question regarding your friend's S2: Was it a 5 speed...

Or an automatic?

-I know that some people have good reasons for wanting and/or owning an automatic 928, but frankly I cannot stand automatics. First of all because I feel that it takes away some of the fun, but also because the automatics used in these cars blunt the performance badly [in my opinion].

You can go on about the TL-S's all day long on Rennlist if you want; you'll just wind up pissing some people off. Frankly I think they are nice cars too, but nothing that I'd want [too vanilla, like most of Honda's cars]. Whats more, I watched my 5 speed S2 [watched-not read about someplace!] waste a '98 vette one evening, and keep pace with a C5 on another. And it pulled a measured 13.8 second quarter mile on an NHRA sanctioned track one afternoon. So I'm either driving a "ringer" or your friend's S2 had some problem that he didn't know about.

-One thing about drag races: What really matters is trap speed. There are too many variables with regard to the launch that can effect your time- launch the wrong way and your time sucks, but you'll still see trap speeds nearly as high. Trap speeds really show the performance capabilities of cars like 928's.

Normy!
