Bill,
A tilter breaks down and fits under your bench. They are around $800 and you can use an engine lift for the tilting. As far as space they can set up in your drive if you have a flat spot or in any two car garage. Once tilted you can still park a car in the second stall. If you get the jack that comes with the tilter then the car can be tilted in a single car space.
Now what do they charge to do a torque tube replacement?
A necessary tool is a vacuum evacuation unit. Under $200 at Harbor Frieght. I stick a tube down the dip stick and suck out the oil before the titler. No need to crawl under the car.
Remember we are not getting any younger.
I was able to get at the cap screws in the torque converter with a wabbly extension and a allen socket attached to a longer extension. The same for reinstalling them. I used the engine hoist to move the trans up and down (side to side from a ground view) while it was loose from the cross member. I wedged the touque tube down when lossening the bolts both on the tube and the cover.
Now the next question can a LSD be installed with the transmission in the car. That is the next project.
Nice pictures.

Dan: You're tempting me. But, I do have no space left. I don't think there is enough clearance to do the LSD with the tranny in situ due to the battery box and/or gas tank, but I haven't tried it yet.

The most popular brand here is SKF, I got a handful for $3 each. They were marked made in France and Italy. The 6905 was branded FBJ "made under licence of FBJ in Japan", this cost $6, less of a bargain but still a significant saving over buying in the UK, doubly so when postage is added.

Bill,
Here is the link to Accessible Systems. They have some other interesting things.
http://www.accessiblesystems.com/
You just need to buy a bigger place then you can have a tilter and a few more 928s. With foreclosures, conforming loan levels being bumped and low interest rates now is the time to move up.
As far as the LSD the gas tank is not all that hard to remove. They should be removed every 50K miles just to clean up all the accumulated dirt and to replace the bracket padding. While I have the car up I will give it another look.
Has anyone changed out the old battery box for a new one?

Press it out of the clutch housing. There should be a number on the bearing.
I found these people to have a good supply and to be helpful as well.

What are the bearing numbers for the Smog pump.
I am rebuilding my old one that seized up and it is completely disintegrated. I am looking to rebuild this and need the number for the front and rear bearing, but i assume they are the same and so i need a pair of them
Bearing number please?????????
Also there are 4 bearings on the internal flaps of the airpump but i dont know if i will replace those, they seem ok and i dont want to replace 4 more bearings.

Front and rear are totally different. Rear is easy to remove. Pressing front out needs to be made right way. If center shaft is just pushed out its possible bearing is stuck to it so much that it will push outside casing so much that it will crack. There are special bearing pullers which work in situations like this.
IIRR front bearing is normal ball bearing which might even have open sides. If this is the case I would get version which has protected sides.
They are spot welded in and welds need to be broken to get them out.

Thanks Erkka
So i need 2 bearings, the front one is intact but a little noisy. (No bearing number?) The rear is completely destroyed but i can tell that it was a roller type or is it needle type bearing. The case and shell is gone so i have no idea what the replacement is. I may just replace the rear bearing and reassemble and call it a day.

Ryan, why bother replacing the smog pump ones. Take that thing out. X-pipe/cats and you should have no problem passing emissions.
Not sure what the 'visual inspection' guys are like down there, but here, they don't know what they are looking at.

well smarty pants, i want to fix it cause i am bored!
I was curious what happened to it, so i just took the bolts and it took forever to seperate the two halved but i saw a nice big mess and since its apparently worth $0.00 right now, i figured i would rebuild it with $5- $10 in parts then its worth $75-$100. Thats my reasoning
Get back to your engine building party, i'm jealous, i'm stuck here rebuilding air pumps YAWN! ...........
peanut gallery? LOL

I'm going to just observe the engine stuff......that's major work and you know I don't want to be a part of that. Hell, I just got promoted to spring/shock noobie. Finished off another of those today. I'm hoping to do exhaust this weekend, well, I'm hoping to get taught those anyway.
Doc is out of luck if he thinks I'm touching his motor.
I might sit back and see if I can paint some calipers as they do rings and stuff. I have to start thinking about major work like pulling an engine and doing head gaskets.
