Bearing number please?????????
1 Smog Pump front bearing 6203RS
4 Smog Pump vane bearings J-65 (2 per vane)
1 Smog Pump rear bearing B-188

I pulled mine apart when I was doing TBWP and noted the bearings - its been disconnected for about 10 years as far as I can tell from the service history. I ordered replacement bearings, but hven't got around to fitting them yet - the four needle bearings were pricey.

I know you said your car is a 79, will this bearing work for a 1990 AC compressor cutch too? or because of the year could it be a different clutch and a different bearing?

No idea. Someone that's worked on both may know.

The 1990 AC bearing is a different animal. it took a wile for me to locate one. Every one wanted to sell me a new compressor or pully which was about the same price as the replacement pump. The bearing is Nachi bearing which you might find here.

http://www.vxb.com/

If not send me an e-mail and I will go back and find the reciept on the bearing. It was around $20.

Default AC clutch bearing update

Thanks to Dan (podman) for helping me with the AC compressor clutch bearing.

I have one on order along with the air pump bearings and will report when i receive them.

Dan gave me the following info on the bearing for the 1990 A/C clutch: Nachi 308G0SS 2DS Dimensions of OD x ID x H 52mm x 30mm x 22mm.

I ran the number with a couple places and they couldnt find anything. I gave Motion Industries call and they didnt recognize the number either but did find me a bearing with the above dimensions. Its number is 30BG5222 UUS and costs $27.00. The 6203 2RS (Dual sided seal) is $11 and the B-188 is $7.

Hope that helps someone else.

PS: Thanks also to Bronto for his help and suggestions.

UPDATE:

Got the bearing in the mail today, along with the pair for the smog pump.

To Clarify, the bearing for the AC clutch pulley is "30BG5222US"

However the box is marked "30BG5222UUS"

These numbers are so similiar to the ones Dan gave me that he must have gotten his 2's and S's mixed up and B's and 8'S mixed up as well.

Coincidentally, I'm re-sealing my compressor and thought of this thread when I saw the clutch bearing. The compressor in my '90GT was replaced at 66K miles in 1998, and it is a 10PA20C. The bearing in the clutch is a Koyo DAC3052-3RR90:

****,

Rob you just reminded me of something. I am pretty sure my compressor was replaced before as well, i would hope it was replaced with a 90 compressor. I guess i should have pulled the clutch off before ordering a $27 bearing which may not even work.

Hopefully they went by dimensions that i posted. I think that was how Motion industries ordered the thing because the number Dan gave me was not recognized by them so they just ordered a bearing that had the same dimensions.

Rob could you try and take rough measurements of the bearing and post them?

I ordered a double sealed bearing in 52mm OD x 30mm ID x 22mm H

Let me know what that one is please

Ryan-

my bearing is 52mm OD 30 mm ID, 22 mm depth. It's all good.

PERFECT!

How difficult is it to get that clutch pulley off? I was hoping i could just loosen the bolt with the belt still attached to counter the torque of the wrench. I would hope the pulley just pulls off, but its rarely that easy. Once the pulley is in hand hopefully its as simple as pressing the old bearing out, and the new bearing back in. Does it appear that that would be the case as you have one in hand?

Thanks Rob

Ryan-

Assuming that I actually get the thing back together and actually working, I've got a ton of pics and will do a complete 10PA20C re-seal writeup. For now, this is the first compressor I've seen that doesn't need any special tool to get the clutch off. I zipped off the 10mm bolt with an airgun, and the face piece of the clutch slips right off. Don't need to counterhold on the pulley, it'd just spin anyway since the clutch is not engaged. After the face piece is off, there's a circlip (a wierd one, it's perforated around its circumference) that needs to come off, then the pulley lifts off, and then the stator comes off. Then you get into the case by loosening the ~8" long hex bolts that hold the case together.

I ordered the wrong shaft seal kit so I'm stuck til that comes in. D'oh!

Of course I bought a $90 fancy-pants clutch puller kit from Ebay that said it works on the 10PA20C. Perhaps the locals with 6E171's would need it.

Thanks for sharing Rob,

Can my job of replacing the clutch pulley bearing be done with the AC compressor still mounted on the engine? Can i get to this circlip while its still on the car? The last thing i want to do is pull the compressor off. I dont see why i would have to do this, but being that you've been here you would know.

Ryan-

I don't see why not, you'd certainly need to remove the fan shroud, and maybe the radiator for clearance to the face of the clutch. The wiring to the clutch is on the right side of the case as mounted in the car and should be accessible. How do you put the car up in the air?

Cheapo replacement this, for those with '87+ cars.

Being at least 5 days shipping away from the US, and not having any other parts to order and combine shipping costs, I decided to see what size the bearing is, and pressed it out.. figured the worst-case scenario was I had to order a new one and wait 5 days

The original bearing is actually sealed into the disc by a couple of plastic lips.. they must make the disc by casting the plastic around it.

I pressed in a new one - its a 608Z C3 - perfect fit, including onto the spindle behind the throttle body. I grabbed a shielded one - they didn't have any sealed, but hey, for $5 I'm not fussed, and it means I can put the rest of my intake back together this week instead of having to wait

Mkay, thinking about air pump bearings- Running the prices on the Motion Industries website I get:

1 Smog Pump front bearing 6203RS 12.57
4 Smog Pump vane bearings J-65 *6.43 x 4 = 25.72
1 Smog Pump rear bearing B-188 7.18

That's $45 plus shipping. Any other sources for quality versions of these bearings?

For posterity, since I don't think they're in this thread yet, the trio of throttle quadrant linkage arms each have 2 HK0810RS bearings in them. Roger now has them in hand!
