Bearing madness
#107
I was just thinking about this thread on the way home tonight, and what a pain it was going to be to find it in the search. Funny how life works sometimes. Anyone come up with a rear wheel brg # yet? I heard mine starting to talk to me and just know that I am going to have to replace it soon.

Buy the correct rear wheel bearing(s) from your favorite 928 parts vendor. I've looked around some just out of market curiosity, and found that the ones in the market aren't enough cheaper to make the shopping worthwhile. The few places that supposedly had the part did not have it but would 'order it' for shipment to me.

I bought some rear wheel bearings a few years back - need to install them still.
Here' what I have for them:
SKF
BAHB 636161C
M2U
Outside Diameter
3.345"/8.5cm
Inside diameter
1.767"/4.5cm
Width
1.855"/4.7cm
Here's a picture of the design. I didn't "get it" from the other treads - split race, etc

I researched out the rear wheel bearing. There is a bearing that will fit but it is a bit thinner but much cheaper. To use it a shim or two would have to be machined. Since I have not had rear wheel bearing issues I did not follow up on it.
I have added a page to my web site with a lot of this information. I will be adding to it over time as I find better deals on parts. Here is the link.

I just ordered some bearings for the smog pump and will add the source in the near future. I will also write up a bit on rebuilding smog pumps since I now have a few cores.

Dan,
Would be very interested in your source and part no's. for the smog pump bearings as it sounds like I'll be needing them soon. I have a used one on the car now, and my old seized one that I'm thinking of rebuilding, Thanks.

Here is a link to the article and part numbers

I will try to do a more complete write up for the web site with pictures and parts source. I do know so far it is delicate job so go slow. The carbon pieces break easily. In the old days I used to just gut them and call it good
Hope the link helps
