Post Big Thank you

Greetings listers,

...and I'm not referring to the FIA GT cars. But seriously, this is intended to be a big, public "Thank You" directed to four guys who have spent many, many hours making the 928 world a better place. I have just (successfully) finished the timingbeltwaterpumptensioner project so often discussed here and without the help of John Pirtle for his fine write up, Greg Nichols for his excellent site, Jay Kempf for his quality tensioning tool, and especially to Wally Plumley for, well, for just being Wally and all that entails - his expertise with these wonderful toys and his willingness to be part of the solution, I would not have attempted this project. Indeed, in the 4 years that I have had my 86.5, the many bits of information gleaned from various owners sites starting with Phil Tong's, the Rennlist, the Big 3, and the 928Owners site have made it possible for me to do whatever needs to be done to keep my car on the road. I am grateful that this information is available and forever in their debt. Thank you all.

I'll second that. Ownership costs (at least mine) are much lower because of their help and the help of others on this site

I am more than happy to join in this show of gratitude.
I am currently in the process of checking my cam belt tension and as usual, the task as been made possible by those listed.
I don't think it would be possible for me to keep this wonderful car if I had to job out every repair. And I don't think I would have the guts to tackle the projects without the help of all the knowledgeable people here.

Again, a big thank you.

I'm poaching from the 944 side but can echo the comments about the rennlist community...I don't have a 928 (yet ) but the resources this list provides has saved me thou$ands...

Maybe that is why I just renewed my membership...Best $17 per year I have ever spent...

I agree, no way in he** could I maintain this car without rennlist.

Not only that, but ya'll don't discriminate aginst folks who arn't members. I'm still working on that fee. From the looks of Bush's tax cut, I might just have it before the end of the year! (or not...)

VU: Re tax cut. $17 is about what you'll get or are you in the top 3%? LOL. Not meant personally of course.

Well, then rennlist will get their money!

17 dollars is cool to me. I don't realy pay any income taxes anyways.

Well, I do, but then I get all the income tax back. They keep the social security, and that sorta stuff. I'll get that back later, when I'm old and need it. I've also got no problem paying for medicare. I've seen where that money goes. I hope I don't need it. I'm in the lowest posible tax bracket, and pretty much get everything back.

17 dollars is 17 dollars that I didn't do anything to get!

I got no problem with the top 3% getting alought of their money back. I'll be getting money that I didn't even pay in the first place! One day I will be in the top 3%, and complaining to high heaven about how awful progressive taxes are, and how it was only suppost to be a tempary measure to pay for World War I.

Hey Steve, Without those of us in the top 3%, there would be no Porsche. Besides, getting into that club does not require nearly as much as you might think

I wanted to chime in with a show of appreciation too I just finished installing new springs and shocks on my 928. While it wasn't brain surgery, the tips from here and Gregs site were invaluable. I now have the ride hieght adjusted and it is ready to go in for a custom alignment. I would also say that the 928 group is especially helpful. I didn't attempt nearly as much with my 951. The people in the 928 community are great

This forum it's great and it's many people here that can help a lot to people like me ( I've owned mine since september and it's a great car but very complex) specially since in Spain there's few 928's and nobody knows its mechanic. When I went in Christmas to POD to ask for the first aid kit and they ask for the year, the guy told me: Oh! it's 1975 car, right? and I said to myself: no, way if they don't know the car even in the dealer who's going to repair it!!!! fortunately I found a guy in Madrid, recommended by The porsche club, who knows very well watercooled porsches.
However thanxxx very, very much for your help!!!!!!!
