Question Miles per Year

Just curious, I noticed LOTS of insurance places will only cover you for 5000 or so miles per year.

That's not a lot of driving.

I'm figuring on putting at least 15K a year on the 928 I just bought. Daily driver - non-winter months - 75 mile round trip to work + extras for 9 months of the year.

What are you averaging? Or do you just tell insurance companies 5K and put on more?

I don't have a milage limit. I'll tell you what though, I can put 5k miles on my car in 5-10 weeks.

I got my insurance though Mercury Insurance Company. Very reasonable rate. They're insureing my 928 for about the almost same fee as my 94 F-150. Actualy, the quote for the same coverage, 928 with Mercury, F-150 with old company, the 928 was slightly lower. I'm 20 and a male, so that doesn't help my rates, but oh well, right? That realy bugs me though.

I haven't had a wreck, and don't plan to, so I can't comment on the service. I'll find out about that when the time comes.

I'm sneaking up on 5K now and have had the car "on the road" and not in the shop for about 8 months now.

I figure once I start taking it out of town on trips, I'll fall in around the 8K mark.

My experience with limited milage policys is they check the milage upon renewal and adjust accordingly.

I guess I'm more concerned with how many miles per year you guys & gals are averaging. Not too concerned w insurance as I've got a fair deal on that.

Is 5-10K the norm? Or are we putting on more than that?

15K mi. is exactly what I put on my car this past season. From about mid April until about mid Dec. thanks to a mild Minnesota winter. I just insure mine year round like a regular car.

I looked into the "collector" car insurance, but they won't let you drive to work! - Ruf

OK, just number then.

In the 4 months that I've owned the car, I've put about 6,000 miles on my car. Thats 1,500 mile per month. Or 18,000 per year.

I haven't been driveing as much as I used too. Been sick, and had schedule problems. That rate should go up as things get back up to speed.

Um yea, I go over a 5k limit.

Gretch and Gretta total about 15 thousand between them. Gretch (being the older of the two and somewhat of a garage queen), gets about 3k of those, Gretta takes the lion's share.

I did 15K March to November my first year of ownership, and she stayed home whenever it looked like rain. That included three 2000 mile round trips to the east coast, but my employer is catching on, they tagged my last big mileage reimbursement with a reminder that we need to use approved rentals for long trips. Right. I'm insured under agreed value, unlimited mileage, if I wad it up supposedly I'll get what I paid for it. PIA to get the policy, needed an official apraisal etc, but very reasonable due to relatively low value of the old 928s.
Limited miles is not what these cars are about, I'd hate to have to leave it home for insurance concerns.

Ive had mine just a year..(1yr and 2wks)..7522 miles. Guess what my mileage limit is? 7500! My agent happened to call me on my cell, i was in my car, and she was calling to check the mileage on my 928. She said the company audits mileage or something each year on some policys/cars..i dunno. Anyway, i gave her the mileage, read it right off the odo..she did the quick math and said " your not going to believe this, your at 7522 miles" I just about died! I then told her that 2000 of that was not considered part of my yearly mileage since i called to add the car on my policy after i bought it in TX. Thus, 2K were delivery miles.
So in a nutshell, she took off 2k miles for me and it wasnt any problem. I weaseled my way out of that one! My car is a daily driver but the nice thing about where i live in Vegas is that i dont have to drive far for anything...including work(doesnt mean i dont drive fast getting there ) Longest trip the car takes is DEVEK day each year.. appx 1200 rt.

1 year, 7500 miles, 1 oil change, new air filter, 1 new wheel stud, 1 new blue vac check valve, 1 left door handle assembly...and thats it for needed mtc as far as i recall! This car has really been a gem! 142.5k miles on it and still runs like a frigg'n raped ape ! Nice to able to sink $$$ into other stuff besides parts for a change!

I used to drive my '83 about 3000 miles a year. It spent most of its time in the garage. It was getting runs to work that were 10 miles each way.

The last couple of years it has been driven more like 5-6,000 miles a year. With 25 miles each way to work. With the increased driving the maintenance seems to have gone down. There are less problems with leaks, etc.

My mileage is going down. I am spending a lot more time these days, wrenching on the car instead of driving it. I don't mind though. I think working on it is every bit as much fun as driving it and you get really intimate with the way the car sounds, performs and handles. I think I know every squeak my car has now.
I have a 7K limit on my policy. I had to verify this with a jpeg to my insurance company since nobody but me has worked on the car for well over a year (no receipts to prove mileage). I typically take it to work 1 or 2 days a week and maybe out on Sundays for a while. My 2M6 Fiero is my daily and I kick the crap out of that little car. Still, it runs great and I stay on her service too.
I also run a motorcycle on the weekends or go out with the wife and 2 boys in the Maxima. I appear to have too many vehicles to drive.
Interestingly enough, all three cars, bike and 2 life insurance policies nip me for $150.00 month from State Farm Insurance and thats with 2 drivers! I think I did alright..........
