Default New Wheels

Nothing like a set of new wheels and tires to update the look of an OB!

Was going to use my old center caps but they didn't look right on the new wheels. Will get some new one's.

Blackshark,

Very nice. I have been thinking of upgrading my 16" 993 Cup wheels to 18".

May I get the specs on the wheels (diameter, width and offset) and tires (sizing profile) please? Did you have to roll the rear fender?

Thanks in advance!

Wheels
Front 8x18 offset 57mm
Rear 9x18 offset 43mm

Tires
Front 235/40/18
Rear 265/40/18

35 profile would have been better, but that's what was on the wheels. Did not roll the rear fenders. They're very close, but have not rubbed yet.

Derived from the Porsche Carrera GT, this 18-inch Cayman S wheel.

Really nice. Congrats on a huge improvement in the look of your car (not to mention the handling).
You say "..haven't rubbed yet." I'm assuming that you mean the rears. My guess is that they won't, since the axle design will bring the top of the wheels inward as they are compressed. If you're wondering about snug fits ever rubbing, take a look at Mark Kibort's setup. That's snug. I recall a picture showing the spacing between the tire and the fender & it was only enough space to fit a credit card (maybe two)

Looks great.

Sorry to ask a newbie question, but does the tire pressure monitoring system still work with an upgrade to 18", etc.? I don't know the mechanics behind it.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,
When you change out your oem wheels that have the tire pressure monitoring system, you will lose that feature. There's no feasible way to convert non-sensor wheels (Porsche or aftermarket) to monitor system wheels.
You will therefore need to disable the monitoring system so that it doesn't give you a permanent nag on the display, and keep a decent tire gauge with you. Disabling the monitoring system involves a very basic jumper in the control module(?). This is very easy to do, is totally reversible, and there are threads that explain the procedure in detail.
There's no reasonable way to keep the system with new wheels, since the system uses monitors that are integral with the wheels; actually mount through the wheel the way a valve does. If you were to do a conversion, you'd need to remove the sensors and actually mount them into the inside of the new wheel by boring holes into the new wheels. Sealing is an issue as is balance. I believe that you'd also be limited to 16" wheels as well (which counters the whole point in replacing the oem wheels).
Some shark owners have looked into the possibility, but I don't believe that anybody has gone through with a conversion.

Richard,
Wow what a difference a wheel makes - very nice.

Your new wheels is one of my favorite styles. I with they would come out with a 10" rear though.

The Cayman S wheels do look nice on 928's......a slightly larger higher offset rear would be "better" in that it allows for a wider tire..... However it does look sharp!
