Post 2Fast 2 Furious..please no more!

Yet another fast and furious movie coming out. I can't help but think car manufacturers like Mitsubishi and Subaru are paying big bucks to have their cars featured in these movies.

The preview looked very stupid.

No wonder all these kids drive like maniacs out there.

Even more fun will be the kids coming out of the movie, ready to take on everything on the road as they make their way home.

John it's nothing new.

Ever rember the stupid stuff the "Dukes of Hazard" did? Jumping the creek? Moonshine races? Rember "Smokey and the Bandant"? How many teenage guys went out and bought a firebird, IIRC, and did stupid stuff?

Every generation of car guys has their "style" of car. Years ago, it was big heavy American iron. The big push rod V8s where the cream of the crop. Now days, it's a 4 banger, with an over head cam, and some cool new tech. I prefer a V8, with all the new toys, but you take what you can get...

I want to see it just to see the mustang get smashed by the semi. There are people that i know around here that quote the first one saying crap like i live life a quater mile a time or some stupid stuff. I actually havehung out with the ricer group a few times out of boredom. Most of those kids put a spoiler on thier car and some neon light. Cold air intake that sucks hot air and a loud *** muffler and then they say, it gave them 40hp!!! YIPEE. my car is still faster lol... I tried to race some of them for money after they were talking about it. One guy had an old eclipse that told me it would do 170mph. Right. Not even a turbo one at that. I told him if it would, ill race him a mile for $300. He looked at me wierd and walked away. those kids are funny lol

Never saw the 1st one because the previews made it look like one of the stupidest movies ever.
I almost went to see the second one because the previews made it look like a spoof of the 1st (like Scary Movie is to horror ficks), imagine my disapointment to find out it was a sequel.

I have to admit that I do like some of the ricer machines. Man a few of them pour the bucks in and come out with a sweet ride. Im more conservative with the exterior looks, but love to see major motor work such as twin turbos, etc...

What I dont like is the way some of them drive. I have been cut-off too many times by them weaving in and out of traffic. I hate to admit it but 95% of the time when im cut-off or see weaving in and out of traffic, it ends up being a ricer.

They need to take that stuff to the track.

tell you the truth, I learned to think twice before challenging a ricer, no matter how measily looking is their Honda or Mitsubishi... In general, they're wayyyy faster than most 928s

I've also seen the previews (in some places, I can't avoid them) and I'll say this: John Frankenheimer is probably glad to be dead, but he's probably spinning in his grave. I mean, all the hard work people like him and Peter Yates and Hal Needham and William Friedkin and John Landis all went through to bring GENUINE thrills out of car chases are being **** on with all the computer effects (look closely at some scenes in the previews) and MTV-style editing. At least it gets the modern producers out of the bind of having to make live action cars do things they can't possibly do (or would be too expensive).

I hate to say it, but its our fault. The "Rice Generation" is all because of one car. A European car. A German Car. The VW Golf/GTI

I just got the new European Car and there's an article on the history of the Golf/GTI. They call it "the original Hot Hatch" That pretty much sums it up. It's all just flattery via imitation.

Having kids myself, it's amaizing to see how their perceptions slide continuously until they reach a perspective that is best for their particular self image at the moment. Race a 928? no . Just walk away as if the old guy is crazy, because that saves them from facing a reality that makes them look stupid. They DO know that all that crap they put on their cars does nothing. They just hope that not everone knows that, so they can look cool without proving anything. Don't bother to wonder why the manufacturers don't put those wings and mufflers on. Just hope some navel-babe thinks it's cool.

Hell they've remade "The Italian Job" for those who ae too young to remember that a Mini really was small enogh to drive in a sewer pipe.... - Ruf

When I first graduated from college, I bought a 85 Honda CRX Si. It was the original "ricer" with factory tuning some might argue. It was quick (with lots of torque steer) and fun. Too bad I drove it into a dip in the road with 5 inch of standing water after a night of hard rain. It's low air intake just sucked the water into the engine... the tech called it hydrostatic lock-up (I called it an expensive repair). The engine's lower end was destroyed. Since I had to get a new engine and the Honda tech was a friend of a friend, he tweeked it so that I can chirp the tires in the first 3 gears. It would probably give my 86½ shark a run for its money... had I not total it during an ice storm 3 months later.

Yip, I second the warning from TAREK that some ricers are legitimately fast.

I won't entertain these crazy kids in some street race BS. That is just stupid and dangerous. Who cares anyway? I am just tired of seeing them drive econobox cars like maniacs just because they bold on a 4" exhaust tip and add a 6' tall wing.
