Looking for track or race-prepped 928

Race cars are expensive.....20 year old race cars are MORE expensive..... granted you can make a 928 pretty quick for fairly "cheap" as race cars go...but its still major $$ in my book!
Tom
Put me on that short list when one has to "go"

I think the main reason to build an S4 is that it comes already with the bigger brakes, some stronger suspension parts (ball joints) and better transmission. the weight difference is not really an issue
I built scots 82 (to a 5 liter euro)and converted mine which is basically an S4. mine was a heck of a lot easier.
With the S4, a set of headers, gut and go is the way to go (assuming any car will need wheels , tires, some type of suspension and a cage with saftey equip.)
There is NOTHING ive seen on the track that is even close. (except for the BMW M3 euro, but it is much more modified to run as fast and is 10years newer )
For GTS in NASA, its going to be a front runner. PCA GT2, better get a stroker, ITE, also a front runner. Hey, didnt we just win the 928's first mixed manufacturer, sports car championship?
$8k for a decent S4, and about $8k to $10k convert it to a race car and add the go fast goodies. $16k to $20k is pretty darn cheap for this kind of performance. 93 race hours, original engine, no engine mods, and still running its best times!

Brian and Ed,
Thanks. I've been in contact with Vito already and will talk to him about it. Although it is an 86.5 , he is only a few minutes away and I may be convinced that the deal is too good to pass up.
Tom,
Thanks but your track cars are way out of my league. I was thinking of something mostly for DE and other track events, not full-on racing.
Mark,
Everything you said is dead-on what I was thinking. Say about $10-$15k to get started and there is always room to do further mods (and $$) after that.
Charley,
Why a 928? Why not? If the motor blows, the motor blows. I love the 928 and get a kick out of being the only one at the track. Everyone else is in 911s and BMWs and Corvettes. For the performance, you can't beat the cost of the 928 right now. Plus, you would not believe the myths and rumors that get dispelled when some of those guys see/drive a 928 for the first time. I kind of like that part . . .

can anyone in the world do this with any other cheap racer???
and rob is a good racer too. our trade offs are weight and HP.
he is 3200 with driver, i am 3000lbs with driver.
384rwhp vs 310ish rwhp .
what do you think it would cost to build this car????
928 is the greatest bang for the buck!
want to go faster, just put in a stroker!

Ok, thanks. Interesting, as you potentially have more hp (300 vs 288) so the brakes are the real difference.
