Andrew's 91GT Engine Thread

How about big valve heads, 110mm bore sleeves, and a stroker crank?

But seriously, if you are planning on continuing with your question for more power - you have to ask yourself if its worth the time now that you have that lump pulled. Cometic gaskets are great if (as mentioned) you have both the heads and block surfaced to a mirror-like finish, and then still use Hylomar. Since you are milling the block (which involves diassembly) you can get all new bearings, and drill your crank.

As tempting as it may be, I'll pass.
You see... I'm finally off the engine bunny hill and I'm very comfortable on the intermediate slopes. You're asking me to move on to the double black dimond slopes and that's just a bit too steep for me at this point. Could I make it to the bottom? Probably, but then, I might also hit a pole and end up like Sonny Bono. No thanks.

When the guys at Thompson's measured my block, they used a periscope style guage, but it was different than what I've previously seen. It was shaped like an L and looked pretty old by the solid wood case it was in. The base of the L has a rollers on both ends. The measurement was taken between the two rollers. The rocked it back and forth both end to end and side to side to measure roundness. It took all of about 5 minutes to do all 5 cylinders on my engine.

Funny Mac...
Update:
I was able to get a bore gauge today. Now I couldn't measure it at the prescribed 62mm as I haven't taken the other head off yet, but with the piston sitting at 49mm I measured the bore and it came in at 99.99mm on my digital calipers (which supposedly have a tolerance of +/- 0.001mm). I will of course take another measurement at the proper height, but at this point I am confident that the motor is fine and just needs to be cleaned and resealed.

Quick update:
I pulled the passenger side head tonight. No drama. The HG was in about the same condition. Now the cleaning begins... well actually, it begins tomorrow.

Andrew, I have a mineral spirits spray gun if you need to borrow it to clean the engine compartment. Give me a call.
BTW, I took advantage of the warm (relativly) temps yesterday and painted my aero mirrors.

Andrew, whatever you do, do NOT use ScotchBrite, sandpaper, or any other type of 'scourer' to clean the aluminum mating surfaces! All you will end up doing is creating low-spots around the area of the stuck-on gasket material, which will make sealing needlessly more difficult after bolting up.
Instead, use those big razor blades and keep the blade perpendicular to the surface, and scrape carefully. Yes, it's a crap job, and it will take a lot of time to do.
I would not worry about any additional engine mods, that's why you bought the supercharger.
Good luck!
