The first layer of shrink tubing inplace. Before installing this shrinktubing I wrapped the wires with a layer of plastic to protect the wire numbering from the adhesive in the shrinktubing. Should the connection ever need to come apart, the adhesive from the shrink tubing will have that sheet of plastic barrier between it and the numbers. That will prevent the numbers from being torn off when the shrinktubing is cut and removed.

Here is the complete connection plugged in and the second layer of larger tubing inplace.

Ben, great work on the harness and thanks for sharing the pictures. If Porsche had made harness like this there wouldn't be a need to ever change it.

Thank you for your kind words.

I did complete the harness installation over the weekend and the car started on the first try. It did take a few more seconds for the fuel rails to build pressure on the first start since they were apart for the installation, but it was nice to see it start right up on subsequent attempts. It actually seems to start easier with the new harness, 2-3 seconds as opposed to 5+ seconds previously. I am guessing that the EZF is getting a stronger/earlier signal from the crank sensor over the new wires and allowing the ignition triggers to fire sooner.

I do have a 1500 RPM @ idle issue however, but i think that it is probably vacuum related, perhaps something knocked loose from rooting around the intake while doing the install or a boot on the side plenums not seated properly.

Here are a few pictures of the harness installation in the passenger side footwell. This picture is of the "W" connection to the central electrical panel, it also shows the cylinder 1-4 / 5-8 injector fuses and the EZF loom.

Up to this point, since there wasn't any activity on this thread, I thought others had lost interest in this project as I have.

I changed positions at work and have an increased responisibility relating to that. I also bought a 911 and have been working on issues with that car lately. Those two things have kept me away from the list for the most part over the last year, thus my involvement in threads here has been limited.

The harness turned out very well and has been in the car for over a year now without issue, but for now I have decided not to produce them beyond the one I have made for my 86. I also ran into supply / availability issues with the 32 pin amp connectors used for the LH and EZF brains, and likewise with the harnessflex split loom. I felt uneasy about needing to require people to core their LH and EZF Amp connectors to build new harnesses with them. The issue with the Harnessflex loom and T fittings is that it is not available in smaller quantities, but rather they prefer you buy the stuff in quantities that would be sufficient to do ~30 928's. I think you will find a similar situation with the TXL wire, especially if you're looking to retain the stock european color coding. I was/am unwilling to compromise when it comes to materials, yet I just was not ready to invest that deeply in the quantity of materials for this project, so i just let it die.

I have about half a dozen or so sets of the brain connectors. I found a few different cars that use them and located pick a part junky on craigs list and turned him loose to harvest a few for me, plus 928's harnesses from various motors I've taken apart.

Wiring has to be pretty bad on most cars, so eventually replacements are going to be needed on a big scale.

Agree, and would buy one tomorrow if they were out there. My harness is crispy. I have to wonder, it seems like the S3 is over-represented lately in problem threads...how many of those tail chasing issues we struggle with, could be eliminated with a harness that conducted electrical current correctly and consistently.
