$20K might get you a 928 track car without a competitive engine. I'd think you'd
need another $20-40K to get a competitive engine built. Unless they allow forced
induction, then you could get by for less.

Jean
Mark Anderson race 928 is about 2850lbs with driver, has a 6.5L stroker motor that puts 500hp to the ground has adjustable moton shocks with 14" Brembo brakes and runs 320-650 slicks all around....he typically runs about 1:31 at Laguna Seca, under 1:40 at Infineon 2:20 at Road America (holds the POC GT2S record with his old motor-tires...probably 2:17 today)...... I would guess to replicate his 928 would cost $100k

Now a much more stockish 928 is Mark Kiborts.....stock motor (granted the same motor that set the land speed record in 1986) with just headers and exhaust...dynos around 320whp....weighs 3000lbs with driver.....street-sport suspension (konis-hpercoils) with 275 front and 305 rear tires...Kibort runs about 1:39 at laguna and 1:49 (not sure exactly) at Infineon & 2:01 at thunderhill...

Cost to replicate Kiborts car could be done for under $20k easy....

Mark Kiborts success is not only due to his car of choice but to his driving abilities that closes the gap on better machines. His videos are very impressive to watch and you can see his talent.

Kibort's car, as mentioned before in this thread, was Porsche AG prepped for Al Holbert to do a land speed run. There is some debate if his engine, that has lasted for a few race seasons now with no tear downs, is a stock engine or one that was modified at the factory. Many other 928ers who have taken their stock engined 928 to the track without doing the recommended oil starvation mods have had engine failures. And no I don't believe it's just the brand of oil he uses.

To replicate Kiborts car would probably cost around $30K U.S. since you would have to factor in the cost of the car too. Getting a clapped out 928 for cheap to go racing with is not a good way to be competitive in this series with 996 GT2s and such.

Jean, how about a C5 Z06? Just lighten a bit and your giving the other cars a fit for mid to low $20K. I've thought about them myself and there seems to be a plethora of them at the moment in the U.S.

I just love the first few seconds of that video, watching that kelly moss monster RSR with CF body (the CF body cost by itself, is the total car cost of more than marks, joes and my car combined!) run down the main straight of sears. those things are about 450rwhp and under 2500lbs. look at it dance and that track is smooth!
