Default paint lifting,

Hi guys,
I have a rather nasty piece of paint missing on one of my doors,( see pic) and its also starting to bubble under my front window
What can i do to protect the door until i have got the cash to spray it,

Question2 , I have a 1985 euro 16v , From what i gather from looking tru past posts is that 16v don't have the worries that 32 v have regarding the timing belt/water pump disasters, is this correct?

Thanks in advance,
Turlough

I don't think there is anything that can be done to stop it. Looks like bad paint prep is the cause.

The 16v is a non-interference engine and in most cases does not bend valves when you lose the belt. I have heard that in the case where you have Euro cams in a US motor that it becomes a interference engine.

Thanks, its still the original paint, Prussian blue, x33,will the door panel get damaged further or can i coat it with something to protect the alluminium until a respray?
What damage would be done if the timingbelt failed on a 16v euro?

On the aluminum, keep it dry. It looks like you're having some issues with galvanic corrosion which seems a bit strange. Unless you have the complete history of the vehicle or are the original owner, you can't be certain whether the paint is original. It seems a bit odd that it would be doing this after so much time. Most paint failures like this show up pretty early. You could buy some epoxy auto paint, mix it, and brush it on, but in all honesty, it's not like it's going to rust.

WRONG! Aluminum rusts or more correctly corrodes. What you have is corrosion of the aluminum. (I spent 37 years in the airline repair business, I've seen lots of aluminum corrosion.) Sand it down until all the pitting is gone, wipe it down with some alodine if you can find any locally then apply some zink chromate primer and a top coat of whatever you can that will closely match the current color until you can get it re-painted. If you can't find alodine then just a good coat of zink chromate primer.

You could get some touch up paint and put it on just to keep it from peeling worse...ya it will look crappy up close, but you won't see it at a distance either

Yes 4.5L 16V 928 engines are non-interference....BUT you live in Holland and have a high compression 4.7L euro....which IS an interference engine! 310hp-295 torque with LH brains & twin dist's very nice motor...

Thanks for the info guys,
but then i have an interference engine and the issues that go with it regarding TB/WP problems, right?,
I want to get it resprayed at the end of the year, still havent decided on keeping the original colour for 3000 euro or total change (silver) for 5000 euro,
Any comments?

twin distributors- or rather, a distributor with two rotor and cap assemblies.
Some of us are of the opinion that the higher valve lift and compression of the Euro engines creates an interference situation. Lots of discussion in the past, I'd do a search and a gut-check.
