Default tire size question

anyone riding this combo? :
235 /40 on 18" 8" front offset 57
265/ 35 on 18" 10" rear offset 58
carerra iii 5 spoke rims
checked the fitment excel spread which indicates it should fit.

was wondering if there is any issue with riding a 35 series wide tire on the back specifically but am i looking at trouble with this combo or should i stick to a 225 f 255 rear set up?

any other issues you can warn this newb about as far as tires/wheel combos go?
thanks

They will fit with no problems. You can go all the way to 295's on a 10" wheel, with the 58mm offset you may have to roll the fenders.

thanks!
does riding a 35 cause a much stiffer ride or any kind of problem you can think of ? just trying to get a firmer grasp of how tire width and profile affect riding characteristics. the original wheels/tires were 16" 225/245 (255?) so how would the change in width affect the 'feel' of the car?

My 89GT came with the stock 16" and I upgraded to 17's with no appreciable difference in ride quality. I ended up running 275/40x17" what I did notice was more suspension noise transmitted into the cabin. Currently on the GTS I was running 285's and then 295's on 10" 18's. Again for me the big difference was cabin suspension noise. I attribute that more to the Bilstein shocks than the tires. Currently have some 11"x18's on order and plan to eventually go to 315's. A friend with the same 11x18's with Boge shocks has much less suspension noise and a better street ride, but less handling ability.

It's all inter-related, you can have a wide tire and soft suspension but give up handling for less noise or firmer suspension with wide tires and more suspension noise. Take your pick.

i understand how wider would give more noise but wow, you are going wide!
what do you notice with all those increases!? what differences do you notice in handling as you have gone up in width? one would think that at some point the wider tires would cause steering to get more difficult or something, no?

I spent a few minutes today on a car with this combo. The rears look awesome but there is no protection for the rims at all on the sides. That's with Dunlop rubber-- other's may give different results. A wider tire will fit, and you can use the "I.m just doing it to protect my rims, dear" logic that never fails to... something. The ride quality is a bit harsher than the higher-profile 17's on my car (255/40 and 225/45), but they fill the wheelwells a lot better. My 17's look kinda puny next to them.

As you go up in size the handling becomes more like it's on rails. I don't need no stinkin sway bars with wide enough tires (tongue in cheek). No noticable change in steering effort, but then I don't think I've done any parallel parking in many many years.

I have exactly this combo (993 5 spokes). The look is a nice improvement over the stock rims/tires.
