That purchase and my trip to the dealership to return them happened during your Z06 lust thread Brendan, I didn't have the heart to lump THAT on you
Thanks Mike. I still lust for the Z06, every time I see a black one with some dark grey wheels and tinted windows, of which there are a few in San Diego. Porsches are a dime a dozen here. Z06 is the rare bird, ironically.

I will take the advice here and clean up the bearing and take pics again and post them here. At the same time, I will find out if I can actually get these halves for 25 bucks, and get back to you to see if will be sending some out.

Yes, you're right, sizing by taking away crush isn't the best way and I probably shouldn't have mentioned that I did that so as not to imply that it's normal. It would have been preferable to have the crank made to fit the size that the Porsche bearings tend to be and they do seem to be sized on the tight side. In my case I don't like to sand a bearing for size, even ones like these that don't have eccentricity, I also don't like polishing too much on a journal for fear of amplifying surface variations. I measured the crush of these bearings at .004 and felt that going .0006 over on the bore was OK in my case but it's not what one wants to do and not to be recommended.

BTW, I don't know how the main bores in the block look on other used engines but mine was really egg shaped and a bit oversize, something like up to .002 out of round IIRC.

Well, if its sounds too good to be true....Then someone just didn't update info on a website.

There are no bearings available on the site I mentioned. The ones I have were part of the whole main set.

When bearings get difficult to acquire for an engine, that can get scary.

Porsche has plenty of separate bearings. Last time I ordered main bearing sets, the only showed 1 in Germany, but they apparently put some sets together out of individual parts, as they completed my order, which was much larger than 1 set.
