Is the October 27th weekend? If you guys need crew, I'll be there. We should have a good contingent of other folks from the local 928 community too.

PCA Club Racing GT rule change-928
There is a proposed rule change for 2008 in the GT class. This will allow a bunch more 928's to race in the GT classes and be competitive.
Proposal 1 will get a few into the GT3 class.
Proposal 2 does get the 4.5l and 4.7l guys into GT3.
Take a look and hopefully there will be a few more 928's racing in 2008!

Opps....I'm going to put this up as a new topic

Now that's REALLY cool John! I'll check it out.
Bill - I'll let Mark gather the pit crew, but we will certainly need some help. We have 2 mandatory 5 minute pits stops which we'll use for fuel, driver changes, and tire changes.
Dick Pierson will start the race, I'll drive 2nd and we're going to let Mark close for us. Should be fun and excitinig.
Ken Osage plans on running the blue car as well with another local Seattle driver..

its going in the right direction, but the rules in PCA are just plain stupid!
a 928 with its stock engine will NEVER get below 2600lbs, which is 600lbs heavier than most GT3 or GT4 cars. how much is the greatest hp ever recorded by a 928 5 liter? 335rwhp?
actually, the 928 should run with the GT3s and 4s. that is, if they want cars to actualy be competitive based on known racing physics and history.

Mark,
Who has built a full blown 5.0L 928 race motor?
Most go for the stroker when spending that money.
Proposal 1 will allow YOUR current 5.0l car to run GT3. Man, be happy about that!

be happy? why, GT3 runs the same times at GT2. the good news is that we can now run with the 944 turbos which are good competition.
good point about the 5 liter full blown race motor. BUT, are the top GT3 cars ful blown race engines? the ones ive seen are pretty basic, but have been lightened and have upgraded suspnensions.

we could be in good shape for this race by runing only 2 pitstops. we could and should only have to do 1 tire change and run 120min per driver with almost a full tank per stop. (ive run 7 world challenges races , where only 2 had a caution lap while the race lasted for 50mins on only 11 gallons)
by running the RA1s, they could possibly run the entire race! but it certainly wouldnt hurt to change tires after the first or second stint.
The car is relatively stock, and we should look at at least mounting my swaybar up front, or maybe we can find someone to loan a devek swaybar. pretty essenitial for Laguna seca , especially running an open diff. ive raced with one before and they are not too bad with a stiff bar up front. if you really want to get fast, i would suggest cutting the springs by one coil all the way around. it actually makes the car near as stiff as the holbert car, which is actually pretty softly sprung.
there are going to be a few very dependable mazdas out the that can run a long time on a tank. in fact, one of them finished just behind, on the same lap as the mighty EVO did last year in the enduro. The KEY will be doing only 2 stops and having no mechanical issues along the way. gassing up while changing tires and drivers is key . 5 mins is pretty easy to do this. Ill do a few dry runs this next laguna weekend and get some times on how long pouring 5 gallons take using the cans we have. if one guy pours gas and two others change one side tires, this is no problem, even with hand tools and a mikita.
This should be REALLY fun!

Its great that you have done this. and yes, dont get me wrong, it is going in the right direction. I banged my head against the POC wall for a year or two, writing coutless letters, having hour long conversations with the racing directors, and only was able to get tire sizes and a correction of 928s weight for a couple of models. So, good job. BUT, they just dont get it. Let me ask you , if anyone was a professioal racer and could run in GT3, would anyone choose a 928? no. why, because anyone that has raced professionaly, knows that weight is more important than hp to weight.
Ill have to read up on the rule change proposals. But, great job getting them to listen. part of my issues, were due to the base starting points of PCA based on the stock classes. too bad your work with PCA cant fix that,so that it effects POC as well.
anyway, I guess if you look at it from the perspective that someone could buid a race motor from a 928, even though no one has done this, and get near 400rwhp i imagine, and run 2:24s at road america, so that would be a upward placing GT3 PCA car. However, like you said, its never been seen so why make rules around it?

Mark,
I have some Hunsacker fuel cans - supposedly they will empty 5 gallons in 10 seconds, but alot of that depends of my fuel tank venting. I'll test it next week - I did remove the unleaded sleeve which allows me to get the full nozzle into the tank.
80 minutes driving - guess I should grab the IPOD and load some driving music..

as long as they can be poured withOUT splilling! who ever does the fuel, needs to be very proficient with the gas. again, who cares how long it takes, as long as gas can be poured in 5 min, and thats probably 4 cans. so , near 1 min a can is above what i think i can do with my cans, so lets do some practice with the hunsacker cans. the good news is that fuel can be poured while you are doing everything else.
80min of driving is A LOT!! its going to be tough, but thats why they call it an enduro! just think of two back to back 40min races.

I have 4 Hunsaker fuel cans ("5" gallon cans which actually hold 6 1/2 gallon cans) and without the restriction in the filler neck, they empty quick w/no spills. The 11 gal can takes Arnold (or 2 state senators) to hold and poor, but, again, it goes very fast w/no spills. Unique design. Love to come up and watch you race - I'll be on a motorcycle coming down the coast - what are the dates? Perhaps the timing will work out right....Good luck

only one guy can pour the fuel and one guy needs to stand by with a fire extinguisher. both dressed in full race attire. (nomex underwear, suit and full face helmet with visor closed, or half helmet with goggles and backlava)
sounds like those cans will do the job. Now, someone start training so that they can pour the 70lb container!
