Glad to see you happy about this engine for once! What does the crank weigh all up balanced?

Cheers Greg

The key here if function over pretty, especially since no one will see or care how it looks while make 500hp!!

Why did they drill a hole on the outer edge of the counterweight and then add Mallory???? Why not add a little less Mallory and leave the counterweight clean?

I could ask and see when he gets back. (He's out at the races for the rest of the week).

It looks like it was the last weight put in, maybe a final adjustment?

Looks like the screwed everything up Adam - why don't you let me help you out.. I'll give you $2K for everything - which should help you get a good start on another engine...

Got crank back from shop few days ago. Bob weight ended up being 1904g when using stock 968 wrist pins. I had instructed them that if its possible to get crank balanced with 968 pins at reasonable cost they should do it and only use lighter S3 pins if necessary. Cost was 200 euros for balancing, 50e for mallory and another 50e for welding.

They were able to balance it by adding three pieces of mallory. One piece was put into #1 counterweight and tack welded from one side. They said they haven't had any problems while using just few small welds. Really hope they are right. At least its cleaner setup than Adam's crank.

Mallory is left just little short from going all the way through counterweight on purpose.

#8 counterweight has two pieces of mallory similarly inserted and welded.

Only larger one goes all the way through.

So ever so slightly lighter than stock 968 pistons and around 650g heavy 5.85" rod combination can be internally balanced. Little over 1900g grams bob weight seems to be upper limit even for 8 counterweight crank without adding more stuff to sides of counterweights.

Seems like there ought to be a shop manufacturing stroker kits for these engines. I'm sure they would sell a good number of them.
