On the street, I run Fierce 225 45 17's in the front; and 245 40 17's in the rear (1984 S supercharged, and both 89 S4's) - on the track, I switch to Nitto NT01's - they are "legal" on the street, but incredibly awesome on the track. Made a hugh difference (although the Fierce tires ran well on the track as well and have a much longer life span)...The Nitto's have a compound rating of 100, so they're soft and grip extremely well and try as I might, I couldn't break the back end loose in 5 sessions at Willow Springs in 100+ weather. I wouldn't want to get caught in the rain, however, with the Nittos.....the Fierce handle the wet well.

Bridgestone S0-2
size: 225/40-18, 265/35-18
tread life: fronts were used, then alignment problem, then pressure problem, rears were new. have around 5-6k (Guestimate)
handling: needs to be warm and fantastic wet grip

Just went through a major thunderstorm heading to green bay on the weekend. I didn't even know it was wet out , even with the worn fronts

I believe you are correct. The very gracious and knowlegable DrBob and Bill have taken care of that problem. At least for now.

Bridgestone S02A 265/35x18 Front, 295/30x18 Rear.
38psi front and rear seems to work well.
Nice quiet ride, stick nicely in AX and on the street after hot. no rollover on the track, nice response/feedback too. handle road bumps fairly well. just don't punch it / try to stop fast when cold or you'll be in for a lot of smoke, skidmarks and oh ____!!

Tire rack - 755.00 installed rear, 690.00 fronts.
mileage 4k rears, only 500mi on fronts. rears are nearly shot, fronts still quite newish, but I have a heavy foot and lousey throttle control at times, hehehe. driving style (or lack of) no doubt the primary contributor to short rear life....

I'm changing to Pirelli PZero Corsa System or Yoko Advan 07's for 2008 AX season. might sell the still newish S02A fronts for $125ea when I change over, pm if interested.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's 275/40 17 & 225/45 17

I widened the rears over the stock GTS sizes on my previous Bridgestone Potenza SO2's & then SO3's. Stock Wheels.

The Michelins are the best yet - Quieter, better wet grip and slightly better wear than the SO3's (quite a bit better wear than the SO2's). All of these tires stick well. The PS2's are the best yet but are wider too (rear)... I have yet to get more than ~8K from any rears - must be the way I drive...

Interestingly the 255/40 SO3's looked wider on the car than the 275/40 PS2's do (tread pattern/sidewall illusion). This might be less apparent on wider wheels.

I find I very rarely break the rears loose - with any kind of sane driving... Like them a lot - will refit PS2's

I've recently swapped out the stock-wheels+Pilot-Sport-Cups for the following:

18x8 et57 235/40-18f
18x10 et58 295/30-18r

I went with Pilot Sport 2's, which I am very happy with. They don't need to warm up in order to give me good traction, and the big increase in rear width seems to have added a lot of off-the-line traction.

The tradeoff is that I've added a fair bit of unsprung rotational weight. The 18's are maybe 6 pounds heavier than the (surprisingly light) oem 16 flat dish rims.

The wider fronts hunt just a little, but not enough to be annoying - probably because the offset is correct for the car.

I will cure the plenty-of-rear-traction issue soon with the motor upgrade

Hi

I have run Falkens for the last couple of years and with my Nitrous they don't last long lol ...around 3000 miles....max...

The new Falken 452s are a lot better than the previous 451s...

Fantastic grip in the dry, amazing grip in the corners on track days (dry) and good but not fantastic in the wet (both road and track)

As someone said earlier in this thread they do "scream at you" when on the limit but it doesn't affect the grip and I rather like the noise and once or twice when I have been overtaking someone on a track on a corner the screaming has made them back off

Highly recommended.....

Sizes...front ...225/40 x 18 ..Y
rear ...275/40 x 18 ..Y ...Replaced yesterday at £270 a pair (we pay more in Uk for tyres)

All the best Brett

Did you have to run spacers to make it not rub in the rear?
I have the same rims & think the 295 tire would fit....pretty tight but fine? My 265's have plenty of room.......

When I weighed my old 16" the fronts were about the same (1lb heavier each) and the rears were 11lbs heavier each...for a total gain of 24lbs...this is with the stock Conti Sport contact II's 235/40-18 & 265/40-18

I love Michelin products.............I ran Pilot Sports stock sizes and went through 3 rear sets without replacing the fronts.......10k kms each.

Went to PS2s with the 17" rims 235 F 275 R...........better tyre but man do they wear.........rears gone 8k kms............fronts 13k kms.

I'm now running Pilot Sports All season............too soon to tell..........no worries about adverse weather

I couldn't get any one in town to replace the Goodyear's That were on there when I bought it. How do I like them, what are they like? I don't know. Never owned a pair long enough to tell(been through 4 sets in 2 yrs on the front). Think I got that problem fixed though. I'll try and keep you posted.
alignment issues------

never let the tech jack up the car before alignment.

this is what you get when that happens-----

Had a set of these tires on my car in the same size. I was really impressed with them until I lost a 5" chunk of tread at 155 mph during an ORR event when they only had about 500 miles on them. I replaced the bad tire and then had the other one separate on me about 6,000 miles later when driving on the highway at about 60 mph. A lot of people love these tires, but after my luck with them I wouldn't trust them for anything other than basic street use even though they're "Y" rated.
