I'm running stock rims with Avon Tech M500 tires- 225/50 16 front and 245/45 16 rear- very quiet, good tread wear, decent grip, but I confess I haven't been very aggressive with the car as yet. They look pretty awesome though, cost only $394 delivered from Tire Rack.

Got an update on one of our cars.

It's the '90 S4. Parked it on the 12th of this month for some odd reason so I looked back through the records. Exactly one year, 14,000 miles on the rears. Well below the wear bars ATM.

Conti Sport Contact II's.
14k on rears
nothing left after one year.
Noise level was very loud.

Not happy with how fast they went to zero. Can't comment on the handling, never had them on the track and Ang does not drive too aggressive. So I am told.

The Kumho's that I had on the '88. ASX's (see 2nd post on this thread)

Got damn near 20k out of them and replaced them with some Yoko A520's (since out of production, got them for $50.00 so I can afford to burn them off)

Overall impression of the Kumho ASX's is very good. Felt very good on the track.

In need of a set of 17s.

Has anyone tried the General Exclaim UHP? This is #1 on Tire Racks website for Ultra High Performance Summer. There have been great feedback about the Fuzions on Rennlist, but they are now ranked 16th in this category on Tire Rack. Just curious if there was any 928 experience with these Generals.

I am considering the Generals, Fuzions, or the Kumho MX (Kumhos are max perf.-different category and backordered).

The Generals are ok for a touring tire but IMHO the soft sidewalls are not a good fit for the 928.

I agree with the individual stating that the Firestone Firehawks suck. Had a foursome and could spin the car out easily. Changed to Yokohamas - really like them.

This car is a near daily driver and is out in all kinds of weather (except ice and a lot of snow).

I have the standard '84 flat wheels (have not upgraded to larger...). Hope this helps.

I am on my 2nd set of Kumho Supra's on 17" wheels - I think they so-so... Decent for the money I guess.. I got about 15k or so out of the first set... We'll see how much out of the 2nd...

Only about 1500 miles on them. Wet performance is comparable to the Falkens (451) I had previously as well as the Khumo Ecstas before the Falkens.

The Yokos seem to be quieter than the others I have tried.

Never gotten more than about 15k miles on any set though.

Some thoughts on bridgestone pole postion REO50a's in 295/30/18.

Much stickier and quieter than the old worn out bridgestone SO2a's they replaced. More stable in corners, progressive when pushed to loss of traction, and pretty grippy on acceleration. They were a solid $100 cheaper than the PS2's, and with the SC, just could not justify spending the extra coin to make michelin smoke.

Need to by new shoes for the shark, looking at tires that fit my current budget. & Need to order them by today by 5. Plan to buy them from TireRack.com

Does anyone have experience to compare or comment on either of these choices? For 17" wheels, 225/45s front, 255(or 265)/40s rear:

I've narrowed it down to either Kumho Ecsta MX's at $111 (cost per front) -or- Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec's at $129 (cost per front, not including $50 rebate if I buy 4), so the price is a wash and very reasonable. The car currently has old Kumho's on it that came with it and they were actually a lot better than I expected them to be, albeit a bit noisy but that doesn't really bother me. So should I stick with Kumho's or go for the Dunlops? I liked Dunlop's I've had for other applications, but know nothing about the Direzza Sport's.

One consideration is that the Kumho's are 3 lbs lighter per tire, 23 lbs vs 26 lbs for the Dunlops (front weights) and since that is unsprung weight, that is a handling factor.

I have those Kumho's on my '94 GTS... No complaints, but I don't drive the car that much and have never pushed it hard on the track w/ those tires.

I've just put a few thousand miles on a set of these Generals, and I basically agree with Ninespub, but since I was looking for the same kind of tire that Paul seems to be looking for, I'm pretty pleased. Quiet, very little hydroplaning, looks like treadwear will be very good - all in all they suit my kind of driving (i.e., like a granny) very well. But when pushed they do feel soft. That's a compromise that is OK with me.

Just as a side note: I was influenced by the Tire Rack reviews and ranking, but (although I haven't looked closely) I think a lot of the reviews were made by owners of lighter machines.

Very sticky and handle very well. I'm only about 500 miles in to them, but I'm happy.
