Official Tire review thread
Sparking off Perry's latest thread on his tires i thought it might be useful to have a thread in which people can list their tire brand, size and a review including such things as:
1. tread life-mileage
2. time until tread death
3. road noise
4. handling
5. all season? summer only?
this might be useful to people who cant go out and buy the latest and greatest new tires and help to get a feel for what tires work best on the 928.

Kumho RSX 2.5 years old, due for replacement in rear.
245-45-17 Front
255-40-17 Rear
13k miles
Fairly quiet
Can't seem to break them loose in the twisties (more cars ability than drivers) Had them on the track 2x and these handle quite well in the rain.
'90 S4
Conti Sport Contact II's (less than a year old)
245-45-17 Front
255-40-17 Rear
3k so far
Same road noise as my other ones
Seem to have less H2O stability than the Kumho's with more tread on them. Dry gripping is very good. Have only had them for 2 months and not tested on the track.

Bridgestone Potenza 225/50-16 RE960 AS Pole Position
Just got them, so maybe only about 1,000 miles on them.
These all season tires, very quite, great in the wet, handle like the car is on rails in the dry. They have a 40,000 mile tread life warranty, so we'll have to see about how they hold up.
Previously had Contis. Bad tread wear and VERY noisy. Good grip in the dry, but not so good in wet.
(another great thread! Good idea Mac!)

Mac,
Great thread, people are always posting about latest and greatest tires, would be nice to have a master thread like this in one place.
I would also suggest adding approx. tire price and source to help as well...
Street tires - were new take-offs when I got 19" wheels
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
235-35 19 front
265-35 19 rear (will replace with 265-30 or 275-30 when worn out)
Approx. 4k miles
Best tire I've owned and best on the 928 so far
Handles and stops extremely well
Approx. $1300 for a full set from Tire Rack
Track tires - woohoo, finally my dream to have separate track wheels/tires
Kuhmo Victo Racer V700
245-45 17 front (on 8x17 et 70 Cup II wheels)
255-40 17 rear
3 autocrosses and two DE's
Stick great at the track, MUCH better than street tires
Paid approx. $650 over a year ago from Tire Rack including shaving and heat cycling (about $30 per tire)

Fuzion ZR1
225/45/17 F
275/40/17 R
Michelin Pilot Sport 245/45/17
The rears are now wore out and gone. I had a very annoying vibration that I could never pin down until I replaced the rear tires. I think they were stored for a while before I bought them. These were used (came with my current wheels). I road force balanced the tires to no avail. They never let me down however, not once breaking loose all the way from Texas to SITM, through the Dragon, and back again. They were toast by the time I got home though. I thought the noise was about average. I now have Michelin Pilot sports in the back. These are also used, but in great shape. They came off of my dad's (now sold) Mustang. They are not nearly as wide (245 mm) as the Fuzion's they replaced so it is much easier to light the tires up.

Bridgestone RE 050: holy cow these have a ton of grip, and in the wet too. Too early (2k+) to know how long lasting. Well worth the difference from cheap tires.
Previous was Kumhos, they do suck by comparison. Had maybe 4 sets in a row. They seem to go maybe 15k miles.

BF/Goodrich Comp TA. 235/55R16. Yeah I know they're oversized redneck ****. And they do suck pretty bad. Moderate dry grip. Lousy in wet weather.
edit: actually I just looked and they're not redneck BF/Goodrich tires. They're even ****tier Firestone Firehawks. Doesn't matter. Either today or tomorrow, they're coming off and some properly sized p-zero neros are going on.

I'm trying a set of Pilot Sport Cups on my 88 S4. 225/50-16f, 245/45-16r.
They are outstanding once warm, but can lack grip first thing on a cold morning. I'd love to go to PS2's, but that'd mean new wheels, and I'm trying to keep things as original as possible.

Goodyear F1 GS D3's, 225 45 17 front, 255 40 17 rear. Very quiet linear tread, great in wet or dry. Comparable to PS2's, but about 25% less money.

Kumho Ecsta MX, two sets, recommended by TireRack for ORR application.
Front: 225-45/17
Rear: 255-40/17
Fairly quiet, satisfied with noise level on street.
Very good at track DE, dry conditions.
Very good at Open Road Racing dry conditions at 155mph, stable in wet at 120mph.
