There are just too many variables to make a meaningful comparison. Also, do you really want to buy the cheapest _____ (fill in the blank)? Maybe the phrase "You get what you pay for" also applies to insurance. YMMV.
Oh my god Ed. This may be the first time that I have ever felt the need to agree with you publically, and that takes alot.
You comment on buying the cheapest insurance is very right on...

Do you Search around for the lowest price doctor before going in for heart surgery? What about going to a website for the lowest price before you go in for your child's birth?
THIS is how important it is to determine your correct liability needs, and also making sure the company will pay a claim if it comes due.
Of course not, and this is what you are doing with insuring your beloved car? Words escpae me when I see this....
Anyway, Ed, you are RIGHT -in this case, you get what you pay for, and you don't know it until its too late.
And yes, I am an Mutliple Line insurance agent, and I deal with this every day, but I will gain nothing from saying this, as most of you bozzos have too many points on your license, or are not in San Diego....

Wow Brendan, Such harsh words. Maybe Sam was referring to as the best deal he can get for the best coverage. Thats how I interpertated his comment. But hey, I am not the smartest BOZO.

That's why I posted my policy amounts on my original posting on the subject. My amounts are pretty damn high. Not umbrella, but high. And full coverage, not bare minimum. I think my rates are pretty good. And I have had no problems with collecting on claims with them. I think they are good, *and* cheap, if you get good levels of coverage. Getting a "bare bones" policy is not the best idea, obviously...
I think people often pay *way* too much for the same coverage I have...

And did you know that when you rent a car your full coverage will also cover your rental. The rental outfits don't tell you that do they. They WANT you to buy that crappy insurance for $20 dollars a day.
My wife and I called Progressive and stated what we wanted for coverage and went with the best for the least amount of $. It just happened to be Geico. Have five vehicles in two different states doesn't help. But our yearly costs are $980.

I happen to use AAA, my cost is 120.00 monthly. But I carry $100.00 deductables on comp, collision, and glass. No restrictions on mileage. I must say when my next door neighbor's physcotic kid backed into my shark on purpose, I am glad I used a major carrier. After the estimate was finally submitted, they sent me a check to have the shark repaired where ever I wanted to. I even asked if there's more unseen damage will they cover it, response in writing yes...as long as a AAA estimator verifies the damage.

GEICO is or was somehow connected to a oompany that makes radar guns. A few years ago there was a story about them handing out radar guns to police departments at no cost. Apparently, they wanted more tickets to be written, so they could charge higher rates...
I'd avoid them.
I'd avoid them.
O.K. I'll post again. I pay 327 per year with Hagerty. With a value of 13k on an 82 (no mods.) and 2500 miles per year. In the state of Michigan with 100,000/300,000 coverage. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Ed's right about variables and a big one being the value of the car, unless you have an agreed upon value, it may not be worth high end full coverage, even my 87' is borderline, I just have liability figuring if the car is wrecked I will use my own resources for repairing, if the car is totaled which doesn't take much according to Kelly Bluebook, with the monies saved on the policy and any salvagable parts sold, I'll just buy another 928, maybe toss in a few extra grand and upgrade a GT or GTS. In the past ten years I've saved enough to have bought a GT (though I haven't banked it all) anything newer or more valuable and I would have full coverage. Nicole, I think your right about Geico, a girlfriend I had a few years ago got a runaroud trying to collect on a claim and others I know tried to "save 15%" but got quoted about 20% more then they already paid, maybe if they stopped running those expensive and annoying ads so often the could lower their rates.
I have been following any thread regarding insurance with interest. Reason? I have had my 928 in semi-storage for the last two years. The last of which without insurance. I say semi-storage because I occasionally can afford some of the many many parts I need and pull it out of the garage and work on it int he driveway. I do not drive it anywhere. I have been working on several things that need attention and I simply cannot afford to remedy most of them right now. Anyway, I checked with progressive and if I remember right, they wanted $600.00 every six months. it may have been a year but I don't recall. I thought it was high. I am 29 with a reasonably good driving record and this was for the same amount insurance listed above for my 1984S. I say reasonably good because I have one ticket from back in 1996 for disregarding a stop sign when I fell asleep behind the wheel. Long story there but suffice to say, do NOT neglect your body when it tells you to take a break from work and get some sleep!
Anyway, that the the resulting accident should be all I have on my record and I considered the 600 every six months outragous. Is it possible that the quote was so high because I have let my coverage expire on that vehicle due to storage?
On another point, I wanted to address Nicole's post about Geico. I am not attacking Nicole and often enjoy reading what she contributes to the list. I am simply expressing my point of view. I avoid Geico, but for different reasons. I did hear the rumor about them giving radar units away but I think what I heard was that they donated some money to a Law Enforcement advocacy group whcih in turn bought radar units for agencies who were underfunded. Let me just say that I definately do not want to hijack this thread and turn it into a heated pro/anti law enforcement post. I do want to point out, however, that very few drivers are as skilled as they think they are and thus the speed limits are in place and enforced for a good reason. I think that judging by the general maturity of most people here, this is not an issue. We speed occasionally and will often accept responsibility for our actions if stopped.
The folks (law enforcement)out there working traffic are not (generally) doing what they do with malice or glee. They are working traffic because they have been assigned that slot for a set amount of thier shift. Though it is very easy to take on the view that it's us vs. them when it comes to Police, this is inaccurate. Police are there to protect the innocent and to serve the public trust. This does not mean making everyone love them and have happy warm feelings inside. It is a hard job where you deal with EVERY walk of life and culture. From the rich to the poor. The phrase "to serve and protect" means just that. It is interesting that many of us (I mean all people not just this board) get defensive and automatically assume that we are being treated unjustly. Cops are human and are bound to make mistakes, but due to the extremely visible public nature of thier jobs, snap judgements are often made. I have been stopped for speeding in my shark. I came to realize that my speedo was off by five miles per hour. (I thought I was doing 75 in a 70 but was really doing 80 in a 70) I am postive that it was indeed five miles per hour off. I verified this independantly. I was treated profesionally and was in fact speeding. I did not know this until I was stopped and informed. I am not advocating kissing cops asses, but I think we need to recognize that these people are the front line when it comes to preserving civilization and protecting us from those who would do us harm. I will acknowledge that there are some jerks out there in uniform, but this is easily the exception rather than the rule. Randy, humorously, posted a link to a place where you can begin to learm how to improve your interpersonal communication skills. Often you will find that you can defuse a tense situation with the proper attitude. One which is not always hostile or defensive. You will usually find that you are treated with the same amount of respect you show to others. Start a conversation off with anyone with an accusatory or confrontational attitude is a sure lose situation. In the case with a traffic stop, this may get you out of a ticket. It may not. I can tell you from experience that you are much more likeluy to be given a break if you are friendly than if you are an ***. If you still get a ticket and want to contest it, there are ways to do that. Attempting to have an argument on the side of the road is not the time or the place for it. I belive we need to keep an eye on our police lest be succumb to the fate of the Germans in the 1930's and 1940's. More importantly, our government needs to be watched. It must be said though, that cops are not the enemy. They are out there doing a very tough job. One which very few are willing to do. Immediately assuming that when you are caught on radar and subsequently stopped, that you are being singled out or being unfairly discriminated against is simply false in it's very premise. Though I won't say that this as or never will happen, I think that it is certainly the exption rather than the rule. Again, cops are human. I am sure that there are people here who work with or associated with someone who they would not like to be grouped with and judged by that person's actions. I would be happy to discuss this as I have firsthand knowledge and insight on this and some other related issues. e-mail me and I will talk to anyone curious about it. Sorry for the length. I have been reading an increasingly biased amount of anti-law enforcement rants lately not nessisarily just here on rennlist. Sorry you guys got to read my reaction. I had to vent. Thanks for not inturrupting.
Back to your regularly schedluled program.
Insurance anyone? Any insurance gurus here? I need a new policy in the next few months for my shark and possibly my other car as well depending on rates.
Thanks again all.

LOVE IT! Always up for a nice row.

I will assume that you may sell insurance, since you mentioned needing more info to speak to Sam... I decided to use two Zs in Bozzo. Then it sounds like B(ah)zo, like when you say "BEE- ACH" when saying B!TCH. You may be from a different generation, and I may simply be correct when I write about insurance situations, since I am in it every day, and I have learned from a pro... It CAN be THAT simple. The lowest rates will usually get you the crappiest company, or at least one that will soon be in very serious financial trouble. Example that you may wish to pull apart: 21st Century (homeowners, and soon auto) "Hello, Mr and Mrs. California Homeowner? Yes, I wanted to tell you that we will be dropping you as of December 1st. Why? Oh because we never really charged anybody enough premium to sustain normal losses (including northridge), so we will be dropping you high and dry come december, okay?"
bcdavis: (as straightforward as I can be) Your original posting references your insurance coverages. Do you own a home? Is it worth less than 100k? Yes? Then your undercovered, and you paying too much, because its not enough. Your uninsured/underinsured is 30k. Unless you think you could live on that for the rest of your life if you are permanently injured and unable to work by an un or underinsured motorist, then you may want to look at that number a bit harder.
Randy: Your conduct here as a moderator is very confusing. If you wish to be in the responsible, "guy with the key" position, and have the power to shut down perfectly REASONABLE threads about porsches and thier drivers, then you can't act like a smarta$$ too. One or the other. People who buy insurance are, unfortunatly, on the average, blinded by those stupid, idiotic commercials about finding the best price, or saving money. Its not about either or those. That progressive insurance commercial about the person who goes to the doctor but asks about the best price is INSANE, and wholefully unhelpfull to the masses.
I will also continue to be extremely confused about exactly what direction you are comming from Randy.
