Todays??? What is the "modern" 928???
So out of all the modern cars (i.e cars in production)......what is the modern 928....the car thats ahead of its time, really expensive, great performing GT...etc
My vote.... Aston Martin V12's and BMW M6....but both of those are a bit more GT and a bit less sportscar...

Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The BMW M6 is too overdone in the sports department and not exclusive enough to compete with a luxury GT like the 928.

you think a GTS is a better car then a 612?
I haven't driven a 612 or any V12 Ferrari, but I dont think you can even compare the performance of the 612 to the 928. Let alone the looks of the Italian or the luxurious complete leather interior made to order.
The performance gap is closed considerably if not eclipsed when you have a SC or Turbo GTS. But I still love the interior of the 612. Although if you spent $3,000 or so on Champagne leather bits you could get close there too.

I think he was only saying it isn't 5X better...
- and I hopes he's right - it would be very hard to be half as much car again - I'd hope...?

I'm not saying the gts is a better car, but it is closer than you would think. The 928 feels almost more special and better built than the Ferrari. I drove the Ferrari 612 for about an hour, and this was directly after driving my 1999 996 Porsche. It was hard to tell if the Ferrari was faster than the 996. I'm sure it is, but it didn't feel much faster, and I was suprised that some of the stuff on the interior, and exterior seemed a little cheap.

well valid counter points.
And yeah 5x, that was for effect, i confess. And then also, who's to say exactly what "better" truly is. I have to say i definately see the 612 in a different light then even the best 928. But thats probably cause i have a 928, i may have niggles with the 612 too if i lived with it on a daily basis.
I would still prefer the 550 or 575 to the 456 the 612 and possibly even the 599 (the current deiggn trend at Ferrari is not to my liking) bud damn is the 599 fast! I think it does an 11.2 qtr mile time! After looking at pics of the 612 i noticed it uses the older V-12, not the enzo based V-12 used by the 599. I cant fault the interior, the back seat leatherwork is truly exceptional. But up clsose it maynot be so nice. I have seen Ferrari's that dont have straight french seams, thats dissapointing.

From a visual standpoint, I prefer the 550/575M to the 612....kinda like how some people prefer the OB/S body style to the later S4/GTS versions. Looking at a 575M several years ago, I remember thinking how I wished Porsche had built a car like that to replace the 928.

even though it is more sport than gt , how about the audi r8? designed to be a world class leader and a first real sport high end from audi. seems similar.
since someone brought up ferrari....even though its a bit older has anyone had experience with the 456gt? i have always thought that was a perfect GT car next to the 928. a lot more money but i would still take one today. unfortunately prices are still all above 70k

My 928 is not going anywhere else anytime in the distant future. Not replaceable, but there are some nice new cars out there. For a new car in the sub $100,000 range, I'm going with the BMW M6
Maybe a CPO'd with low miles, SMG, couple of years warranty left.............

He said it felt just like my mom's Jaguar, not "sporty" enough. In his words he would not compare it to a 928 (my 81 was his car for about 7 years).
So now I change my vote of modern 928 to the Ferrari 612.
