I guess we all did! This begs a Walt comment about not having campsite coordinates. Bigger gun, better aim, and you won't be missed next time, right?

Camping with no cellphone sounds a lot like heaven. I'm just ever so slightly envious. Welcome home!

Dave - getting away from it all is good isn't it...

I took off for a couple of weeks at the end of July backpacking in northern New Mexico with my oldest boy. No cell phones, no power, no toilets.. phew! It was great though. Up at 3am one day to climb Mt Baldy in the dark to see the sunrise from the peak - you can't beat experiences like that huh!

BTW as far as I know nobody missed me except my family... but I wasn't gone as long as you (thats my excuse for it anyway...).

Sure is nice to drive the 928 when you get home though! Civilization or none at all - good extremes!

Bill, anything in particular in mind?

Bob, I'm not sure how much better coordinates would help -- the terrain was very rugged and the campsite was in a steep, narrow box canyon. It would take an orbital strike or a big **** warhead to not miss me there.

Alan, driving the 928 again was a big treat, after driving an overloaded 91 Saturn. I wasn't roughing it quite as much as you -- toilets, showers, hot & cold water were a short hike from the campsite. Having to drive 2 miles to get to a payphone or 20 miles to get a cell signal was the key benefit, aside from the obvious -- fresh air, gorgeous scenery, etc.

As an old artilleryman I have great faith in high-angle fire. ;-) You can hide in defillade, but it's only rookies who mistake concealment for cover.

Well, I'm certainly glad he's back. Now maybe the Sunnyvale police will leave my shark and I alone. I keep telling them it is the "other guy", but they don't listen to me.

Will, thanks for the encouraging words.... (looks over shoulder)

Ron, I think they like you too much to leave you alone. Either that, or they are zeroing in like bloodhounds on the donut I hid under your rear bumper last time you were over.

Not too hard to tell who's the sour puss 'round these parts...
